  1. Pacific War Redux

Timeline for December 7, 1941 (December 8, 1941 in Far East) All Time Hawaii Standard time (Singapore +18 hours to his time). As in the first post items in italics are the same as IOTL. There is a veritable four ring circus going on throughout this day. I have very intentionally attempted to...
  2. Japan's "formal" declaration....

Actually it was. http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/wwii/dec/dec04.htm#germany Even though the Reich Declared on the U.S. first. Actions by both sides prior to that fell into the lovely grey area "short of war" were men die, ships sink, and harsh letters are exchanged between capital cities.
  3. Japan's "formal" declaration....

The original Japanese intention was to inform the United States FIVE MINUTES before the attack (13:00 Washington DC time = 08:00 Hawaii time). In actual point of fact, the attack began at 07:55, so it would STILL have occurred before notification, even if everything had gone according to Plan.
  4. Japan's "formal" declaration....

Which, of course, is why, some 12 years after the end of the Japanese/Russian war, the President of the United States had to go to Congress and request a Declaration of War against Germany & the AH Empire.
  5. WI Inchon failed?

Depending on the source (oddly enough, the data is still not nailed down) the numbers in 1950 are as follows: USSR: 3 - 5 USA: 298 - 450 In 1951 USSR: 25 - 35 USA: 438 - 650 1952 USSR: 50 - 85 USA: 832 - 1005 As you can see, by 1950 the U.S. was into the mass production stage of...
  6. Pacific War Redux

The money was already approved. That is the irony of the entire thing. The "Two Ocean Navy Act of 1940" gave, among other things, the President of the United States a literal blank check to The Congress gave the Army & Navy as close to a blank check as it is possible to grant following the...
  7. Pacific War Redux

I've hesitated because the Pacific War is one of my favorite time periods (how expert I am I'll leave to others to decide:)). I hated to mess with it. Unfortunately, Riain's TBD thread got me thinking too hard to let it go. The other problem is that the Pacific War IS, IOTL, an Ameriwank.
  8. Pacific War Redux

The Hellcat was actually well into development before the A6M was found in the Aleutians. IOTL the contract for the XF6F was signed on June 30, 1941. The aircraft really took shape as soon as the R-2800 Double Wasp was installed as the engine of choice. The R-2800 was THE American fighter engine...
  9. Pacific War Redux

Okay, here is the start of my ALT Pacific War TL, based on my November 1, 1940 the War Department wakes up thread. I have made a few changes based on some of the feedback I received (like the POD is now June 26, 1940, with the Fall of France). I have also stayed with the original premise, namely...
  10. WI Inchon failed?

Yep. Part of the "Huge Gamble" myth is MacArthur ego massaging. Since it was a success, the more daring his staff could make it appear, the better the light on 'Ol Doug.
  11. WI Japan Invaded the US?

BTW: Just to provide you with the actual date. The command element of the PacFleet wasn't sent to Pearl until February 1, 1941, seven months after the Battle Squadron. This roughly coincided with the movement of PacFleet assets to the Atlantic as part of the Neutrality Patrol (which, of course...
  12. WI Inchon failed?

Indeed. Even the UN winning the war wouldn't have brought the PLA (actually the People's VOLUNTEER Army, or PVA, entered Korea, but that was primarily window dress, as about 3/4 of the PVA was PLA regulars) into the war had MacArthur simply have not shown every indication that he was going to...
  13. WI Japan Invaded the US?

Redman was wrong on a regular basis.
  14. WI Japan Invaded the US?

Again, Bard, you're wrong. I dearly wish I received $.25 every time I type that. The Battle Line was forward deployed to Hawaii, where it fell under the Hawaiian Department. The Pacific Fleet was based in San Diego, with significant elements in San Francisco and Bremerton. Welcome back. I...
  15. Sunk Beneath the Coral Sea

Flattery will get you nowhere (but, please, don't let that stop you).:p I would suggest that you take a look at some of the newspapers of the time, or some of the histories written immediately post-war. The America of today is not the America of 1942. The United States was at war with the...
  16. Naval history WI: Less carrier orientated USN post 1950's

It's hard to image why the USN would abandon such a useful tool, especially after their utility in "small" wars had been demonstrated so well with Korea.
  17. Sunk Beneath the Coral Sea

    Sorry, I was eating a sandwich. :p
  18. WI Japan Invaded the US?

Not that high. Why would they bother? Burning desire to see 900 men hung from lamp posts?
  19. Sunk Beneath the Coral Sea

Forgive and Forget? Yea' that was going to happen. Coral Sea is insignificant in the larger scheme of the war. Australia was not going to be invaded and conquered. Japan utterly lacked the lift and troops to make that work. Australia is a CONTINENTAL landmass & Japan couldn't have...
