  1. AH Challenge: Suez Crisis-ish in Panama

No Yes. The difference between the two are so great there is no chance of a similar process. The U.S. would also not bother with using an Israeli replacement if it was going to take it. It just would.

  3. What IF the Combined Fleet Went to Oahu ?

    Again??:confused::confused::confused:
  4. WI Grand Slam & Tallboy stay in use

My favorite part of the whole saga is that they used a LIVE Tallboy as a display as an RAF base for years, by mistake. Gives a whole new level to "opps, my bad".
  5. Could one of the V-bombers have become a British B-52?

The question is, why? The RAF has no ongoing need for a long range heavy lift conventional/nuclear bomber. The Falklands was a serious one-off event, and it is the only instance that the UK could have made use of a BUFF. Maintaining a very costly system for use once in 40 years is a bit pricely.
  6. 1984-US SSSR go to war; What Does Yugoslavia Do?

Cower and pray, same as the rest of the Planet.
  7. What IF the Combined Fleet Went to Oahu ?

Sorry you feel that way. The key, IMO, to any AH scenario is the POD. For this scenario, what happened and when to cause the IJN to abandon the strategic doctrine that had been the centerpiece of its doctrine for at least two generations? I may have missed this, but it seems that the crucial...
  8. What IF the Combined Fleet Went to Oahu ?

I have to say that the damned map has me befuddled no matter how much I look at it. Overall, however, the theory of using the Japanese 1st Fleet is not one that meets with real world IJN doctrine. The Japanese command was utterly intent on using the Battle Line in the oft mentioned "Decisive...
  9. WI-main battle rifles upgraded and mass produced to this day

I've heard of it. The difficulty with it is the almost complete lack of interest in the round by the general military establishment. It has been looked with great interest by SPECOPS, but the Pentagon as a whole doesn't much care for the cartridge. It could find it's way into that eclectic mix I...
  10. WI-main battle rifles upgraded and mass produced to this day

You are describing the much malinged M-14 or the German G 3 combat rifle. Chamberd for 7.62 NATO (.308 Winchester) they fire a full sized round, unlile the AK series or the M-16 family of rifles. The full size cartridge is (although the opinion is starting to swing back) to be too heavy and...
  11. Pacific War Redux

Here is the latest update for January 5 & 6. As always, comments are very welcome. Enjoy. January 5, 1942 News of the loss of the Kongo rolls over IJN Headquarters like a thunderclap. A significant portion of the General Staff had objected to putting part of the main battle force into a...
  12. Dec. 7th, 1941-The BATTLE of Pearl Harbor.....

I'm still trying to sort through all the circles.
  13. Dec. 7th, 1941-The BATTLE of Pearl Harbor.....

The thing is, that in this POD there IS a warning, as part of the question (rather like the preconditions on the shore battery thread, but less restrictive). The source of the warning isn't all that critical, unless you push further back than 07:00, there is virtually no impact. Once the JNAF...
  14. France Signs a Separate Peace in 1917

What does a separate French peace really give the Germans, assuming the British and the Americans decide that the Kaiser can still go screw? They are still cut off from the world. The RN, even if the U.S. simply sits on its hands, has continental Europe sewed up tight. Nothing moves in or out...
  15. Dec. 7th, 1941-The BATTLE of Pearl Harbor.....

It depends on the warning time. If they don't have any more warning than the initial radar, they will still be in a lot of trouble, there isn't really enough time (just about an hour) to get everyone up and ready to go. If the base goes on alert when USS Ward attacks the sub, there is a better...
  16. Japan falls late 1943 -- effect on ETO

The German Army used horse drawn artillery and supply wagon for virtually ALL of it's infantry formations. It couldn't afford to supply enough trucks to their non-mechanized formations to become a completely motorized force. The U.S., and through Lend-Lease, her British & Soviet allies, were the...
  17. AH Challenge: Finland joins the Allies

The Finnish situation was very much the case of "My enemy's enemy is my friend". They were willing to work with the Nazi's to stop the Bear from taking them over, but they didn't do anything to help the Reich that didn't advance their cause. Probably the most revealing proof of the Finnish...

No matter how great the plan, the devil is in the details!

  20. Recommended Reading for the Pacific War

Besides the fact that the programs are about as factual as Guadalcanal Diary or Battle Cry? Nothing. History (they amputated the "Channel") is a disgrace. It had the opprotunity to actually educate as it entertains, instead it shows poorly researched (or flat out lying) programing that builds up...
