  1. Operation Jefferson Davis

Unopposed? There is the small matter of the United States Navy which in the Summer of 1941 had the majority of it's combat power in the Atlantic (Seven BB, including the two fast BB of the North Carolina class, three carriers, including the Yorktown, the vast majority of heavy AND...
  2. WI: Decent superchargers in US fighters?

Once again... Oh hell, it's just too easy. Never mind.
  3. WI: Decent superchargers in US fighters?

The USAAF loses it's best fighter bomber of the war if it loses the P-47. If the T/L worked out as you lay it out, you may very well kill the P-47, but I'm far from certain on that. The biggest advantage the P-47 had was that it used the R-2800 radial (which put out ungodly horsepower, even...
  4. Espionage & Sedition Acts

It does, but it wasn't. It was overturned by Congress in 1921, once Wilson was out of office.
  5. Espionage & Sedition Acts

Not really. The Patriot Act laws are nothing compared to the Sedition Act. I doubt that most Americans, even most American politicians, even realize that the Acts ever existed. The Sedition Act was clearly and patently unconstitutional. You will find virtually no complaints about it in the...
  6. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

The IJN had, on December 7, an estimated 18 months fuel. The Japanese ARMY had about 5-6 months. Surrender is not going to happen. You probably see what we saw IOTL, every island of value having to be taken a bloody yard at a time.
  7. Pacific War Redux

The impact is fairly small within China, outside of the specific region the troops vacated, and those were chosen because they were fairly quiet. There are close to 700,000 troops in-country and this pulls out around 30K. The butterflies may have a bigger effect down the line.
  8. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

That is very true. The U.S. wasn't going to be going anywhere in the Pacific before the Kido Butai was addressed. The ships had to be built and that took time (although the decision to delay construction of many partly completed ships to build the massive number of landing craft needed for...
  9. WI: Decent superchargers in US fighters?

Huge differences if they used two stage superturbochargers in the early deisgns, including the P-39, P-40, F2A and F4F. The United States suddenly has an extra 1000 absolute top line aircraft (for that matter the F2A and Model 339 Buffalo become a very tidy fighter with speed equal to the Zero).
  10. Pacific War Redux

So far they have had to pull several squadrons of bombers, a squadron of fighters and the 51st Army Division
  11. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

Hmmm.... First the fabled third strike. Earlies possible arrival is 14:00 hours, more likely 15:00 hours. This assumes the first wave is fully back on board at 10:30, rearms in two hours, forms up after launch within 30 minutes and is back over Pearl 90 minutes later. This is a VERY tight...
  12. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

Zeros COULD have provided escort, had there been any in Indochina at the time. There weren't any, the G4M's had only arrived in response to the arrival of the PoW & Repulse (of course, had a carrier been with the two capital ships the JNAF could have sent some Zeros as well). It is also unlikely...
  13. Pacific War Redux

If things remain as they currently are, that is correct. The Japanese have, as the most recent post for December 22, 1941, indicates, that this will not be the case.
  14. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

Ummm... American shipyards? Perhaps as PART of Lend Lease? The ships can be manned by anyone, up to and including Americans (although using South American crews with Soviet officers, would be more politically correct), as long as they are Soviet flagged they are untouchable.
  15. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

Even after all the reports about bad torpedoes from frustrated sub commanders it still took a direct order from the CNO to force actual tests on the torpedoes. The worst part of is that, once confirmed, the fix for the depth issue was quite simple. Bypassing the Philippines wasn't done because...
  16. Pacific War Redux

Now, that is just plain mean. I LIKE IT!:D
  17. Pacific War Redux

Homm'a 14th Army IOTL put 48,000 troops on the Beaches of Lingayen Bay (Japanese Army Divisions were much larger than the classic 10,000 or so troops in 1941, often running as high as 30,000 men.) ITTL he has around 35K that made the beach fully equipped with several thousand others who staggled...
  18. Pacific War Redux

Here is the latest update. It is now, three weeks into the war, that events will start to diverge significantly from OTL, especially in the DEI. Actual events are in italics Enjoy. Comments are decidedly welcome. December 22 1941 Japanese Army 51st Division is ordered from Canton to...
  19. How much shorter could the war in the Pacific have been?

Not quite sure that the 5,000 plane raid would be possible. Also, Secretary of War Stimson was dead set againt hitting Koyoto. He took it off the 20th's target list, not once, but on two different occassions.
  20. Pacific War Redux

Thanks for the feedback. The initial Japanese invasion has very much been stuffed.
