  1. WI: Byzantine Emperor converts to Islam?

Favoring one sect within a religion is not analogous to changing religion altogether. I don't see how this is any different from the Fatimid Caliph in Cairo becoming Christian in order to save his realm during the Crusades.
  2. AHC: No Zoroastrianism (POD of 600 BC)

@John7755 يوحنا can put it better than me, but there are many misconceptions about "Zoroastrianism" and how prevalent it ever was in Iran in reality. To simply put it, Zoroastrianism was not the only, nor most common Iranian religion.
  3. WWII: German Victory in Battle of Britain, could USSR win alone?

It’s nothing short of a miracle that Germany won against France Uk and ussr are way too strong for Germans to take on even individually
  4. "If They Want It They Can Have It": Ulster's Tragedy.

    Or perhaps one-snowman invasion?
  5. DBWI: The US was the first country to have nuclear weapons

The American Moonshot is butterflied for sure. Why worry about Space and Rockets when you have The Bomb? I don't know if a Soviet Union without the Bomb could make it to the Moon before a US that did but the Soviet Union probably gets further into and does more research into space travel.

WI: HRE Matthias has a son

I need to find out more about the Regency system in Austria. But something very interesting would be if more tolerant people took over the affairs of Austria. For example Melchior Klesl was a pacifist and during the reign of Matthias tried to establish religious tolerance in the Habsburg lands...

Threadmarks: 149: Foundations For The Future, Farewells, and Factions

...asked what it was, Prabowo said it’s his list of the three top PKPI DPR candidates that the PKPB should be on the look out for. The three were: *Harmoko, the incumbent Chairman of the DPR. Indulging in his old habit when he was Chairman of Golkar, Harmoko had travelled around Indonesia...
  8. WWII: German Victory in Battle of Britain, could USSR win alone?

What huge numerical advantage did Germans have ? This is a British propaganda myth now discredited by their own historians

WI Carter never became US President?

RR had thought of the USSR as the Evil Empire for decades at this point. No change. Well, other than the US Safeguard ABM system had not yet been totally dismantled, RR would fight Congress on that. There would be small numbers of B-1A bombers built, along with the Military upgrades that Peanut...
  11. Dunkirk Disaster causes Spain and Soviet Union to join Axis.

Isn't that the crux of our posting here if not the existance of the site itself - to ponder the 'if'?
  12. "If They Want It They Can Have It": Ulster's Tragedy.

Why not? Well our taste buds might say something about it and our concern for cholesterol levels even more. But it's probably very, ah, filling, on a cold, wet and windy night on the Clyde coast. Of which we have a great many even if not as many on the west coast of Ireland. An ordinary...

  14. An Examination of Extra-Universal Systems of Government

Okay, now here's a weird idea for a government. I'm not sure how exactly it would work, but here goes: A Nietzsche-an government. The PoD might be Nietzsche both not going insane and living longer, resulting in a political/social movement that agrees with him somehow taking over Germany after...
  15. DBWI: The US was the first country to have nuclear weapons

It's been argued that the Soviets stealing a march on the US in the field of nuclear technology led to the Americans panicking and seriously accelerating their rocket development programme. While the Soviets got the bomb first, the Americans had Operation Paperclip. And as we all know, this...
  16. WWII: German Victory in Battle of Britain, could USSR win alone?

The suggested point of departure is that the UK is not in the war so all of the discussion of the Battle of Britain is interesting but ultimately irrelevant. I would just suggest one scenario which takes the UK out of teh war: Halifax or Lloyd George succeeds Chamberlain as PM. As to the...
  17. Dawn of the Dead (2004) 15 years after the outbreak...

Gold is useful for electrical conductors and as a filling for dentistry. Scientists rebuilding after an economic collapse would definitely love to get their hands on Fort Knox's gold.
  18. Count of Crisco

Independent North as distinct as Scotland or Wales

I had once toyed with writing a TL with a surviving Mercia allying with Wessex and eventually becoming a dual monarchy with a shared king, but separate capitals. That was years ago though when I was really new to alternate history. And I am not sure how plausible that TK outline I had was
