  1. Place In the Sun: What If Italy Joined the Central Powers?

The Italian TTL actually managed to achieve substantial victories against the Entente and actually even managed to sink a battleship, HMS Queen Elizabeth with a submarine. From what I knew of OTL, the few Italian were relatively minor in comparision and didint gain nearly as much ground TTL(...
  2. WI Germany breaks Typex code after Dunkirk

So .. how would one crack the TypeX ? Lets assume a 'crib' is possible, so they have something to 'match' against for the 'day settings' .. (IF you use the machine correctly, it should not be possible to find a 'crib' for the day settings .... a 'crib' for a message is (almost) impossble to...

  4. Miscellaneous <1900 (Alternate) History Thread

How did the Russians defeat the peoples of the steppes, and why couldn't the Chinese have done the same earlier.
  5. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

Actually, all my posts on this thread were so far focused on a pessimistic scenario (i.e. a scenario in which the USSR is somehow magically unable to fix it's internal economic problems). However I don't really think that's fair, the Soviet people had a legion of bright economists in it's ranks...
  6. Map Thread XX

What have you done!? And where can this timeline be found? (Asking for my friend on the Death Star) Well that's a relief. I'm sure the *internet is a very nice place.
  7. AHC/WI: A Royal Princess marries a guy who becomes the future President of the USA

Closest i can think is Princess Margaret who had some sort of relationship with John Turner, who went on to become Prime Minister of Canada
  8. AH Challenge: A Third Rome in 1830?

You are braver then most by even attempting this challenge (lesser men would have looked at how crazy the challenge is, said ASB and moved on). In terms of how off the wall this is, we are essentially looking at a reworked EU4 achivment: Definitely the Sultan of Rum. (Which required Ottoman...
  9. AH Challenge: A Third Rome in 1830?

First of all, I think this might be one of the most ridiculous challenges I have seen here. So kudos for coming up with this. That being said, I think the Ottomans need to be orthodox for this to work. Ottoman Empire can only be ruled by a son of the House of Osman, so our dude with 3 PU's has...
  10. Alternate warships of nations

5 inch/38 does not come arounnd when these ships were constructed. The weapon was designed and constructed from 1934 on, so the Pensacola's and Northamptons, constructed in 1929, as well as their successors Portland and New Orleans classes predate the existence of this weapon so they had to do...
  11. AHC/WI: A Royal Princess marries a guy who becomes the future President of the USA

I suppose by Royal princess you mean a princess in her own right like Princess Anne or Princess Beatrice as opposed to the ex-wife of a prince, like Diana, Princess of Wales. If we use Britain as an example, it would likely make no difference unless the Princess in question requested her title...

  13. WI: Franklin Pierce wins the 1864 Democratic nomination?

Yes--Peter Wallner, sort of. Though Wallner does concede that in the end Pierce can hardly be considere d a success as a president. Volume 2: Martyr for the Union President Franklin Pierce faced unscrupulous and corrupt politicians, comically inept diplomats, violent adventurers, fanatical...

What if Margaret Beaufort was born a boy?

A lot would change IMO. If Edmund Beaufort is still a favourite of Henry VI it could make York feel even more hard done by because Beaufort isn’t even a Duke, which could lead to an earlier WOTR.
  15. AHC/WI: A Royal Princess marries a guy who becomes the future President of the USA

Diana wasn't a Royal Princess, she was a Princess by title as wife of the Prince of Wales, not a Princess by rank as Princess Anne/Eugenie/Charlotte etc are Again, not strictly to. Zara and Peter were not entitled to the styling of Prince and Princess as their descent is via a female line. The...
  16. How far does Communism spread if the US is disinterested?

Being 'friendly' towards the USSR [at least at first] doesn't mean they'll be subservient to them - I cite Tito here. And a quick check of the 'verge of victory' the Italian Communists had - they never even won a plurality, let alone a majority. Their zenith was in the 70s, where they...
  17. WI: Franklin Pierce wins the 1864 Democratic nomination?

Are there any historians who defend him?

Not to mention, they are in no danger of extinction! In fact, they are more likely to die of hunger because there are too many!
