  1. Worst fighter of WWII

It lost engine power in hot & humid conditions to the point that the aircraft assigned in New Guinea often had to avoid raiders by moving out to sea rather than engaging over the mountains becuase they couldn't climb fast enough (see Fire in the Sky for details).
  2. WI: Thatcher dies in the 1984 Grand Hotel Bombing

Well, that's a nasty bit of hatred. The glass on your toll booth needs replacing. Take some time, make it a week, and get it repaired. When you come back, try not to applaud terrorism
  3. Blood, Sweat, and Fire

Moving a vote from 8% to winning a state isn't a small issue. I will refrain from most comments, (mostly because the very idea of this T/L is making me long for death) but this is way too big of an issue to handwave.
  4. WI: No Flying Fortress?

Yes you do. Yes, assuming you want to perform that mission. Yes, assuming you want to perform the mission (actually 500 would be better, but I digress...) No. Not a chance.
  5. WI: No Flying Fortress?

Money wasn't really the issue. The issue was need and retraining, along with basing. By the time the B-29 was available in number the Reich was finished and the added complexity (retraining crews on the much more complex aircraft, replacing all the parts in the supply line...
  6. WI: Israel annexed settlements after Palestinian UN bid.

SO not funny. DO NOT post this sort of crap, especially in a thread that has, surprisingly, considering the subject, been quite civil. CalBear in Mod Mode.
  7. challenge: make this guy Hitler's sucessor in a 3rd Reich Europe

Can't decide if this is a trolling post or just blindingly clueless. Giving all possible benefit of the doubt I'll just lock this rather than any action.
  8. Pacific War Redux

Tsuchihashi was not the forward thinker that Yamashita or Homma were. He was a very conventional officer, pretty much Hey, diddle diddle, straight up the middle. He was in command of the 48 Division when they pushed the Allies off Timor. The Allies had around 1,200 men and the 48th landed...
  9. Pacific War Redux

Bataan is much better off than IOTL. The Japanese are better than 2 months behind schedule and ATL the 48th was, by far, the strongest Formation the Japanese had in the Islands. There will also be some... interesting effects in Homma's relief.
  10. WI: No Flying Fortress?

The difficulty with this is that the Mosquito was not a bomber, nt in the sence that a B-17, B-24, or Lancaster was. Its great advantage of speed disappears if it has to be used in a strategic role. It would have been slaughtered in the daylight raids against strategic targets, where the need...
  11. Pacific War Redux

Actually the Japanese are trying to salvage part of their original plan by moving into Burma. Their original goals are unchanged, although several parts of the original plan have already gone a glimmering. It is worth noting that the Japanese are, at this point, still very much winning the war...
  12. Pacific War Redux

Hopefully this will make up for a couple missed posts: As always comments are encouraged. April 11, 1942 Guam - Lead elements of 1st Marine Division, consisting of two battalions of the 7th Marines and parts of the Divisional command & control staff arrive in Apra Harbor. Additional...
  13. Improving WW2 Japan from 3 POD 1932

The Japanese never even gave serious thought to attacking the port facilities. Even in the base planning of the operation it calls for any perspective 3rd wave to be armed mainly with torpedoes to finish off cripples in the harbor. The entire "attack the shore facilities" myth is right up with...
  14. Improving WW2 Japan from 3 POD 1932

Easy. DO NOT under any circumstances, get into a fight with the United States until you have developed ICBMs and nuclear weapons. That is the only POD that will work. Japan needs 30 years and almost unlimited luck. Anything else and Japan is crushed. There is no way out of it.
  15. US carriers destroyed at Pearl Harbour what changes?

It wouldn't take ANY time to build the ships I mention. They are all already in commission (with Hornet, the newest, still shaking down). This really only changes things by one deck, since, as has been noted, this would almost certainly butterfly away the Saratoga's torpedoing. Since the U.S...
  16. Challenge: Make World War II Naval Battles Gunnery Duels

The RM and KM would, it seems almost certain, disagree with this. The Swordfish was actually a very sound weapon. It looked old, but it wasn't (1936 introduction) had airborne radar, and, most importantly, was successful.
  17. Challenge: Make World War II Naval Battles Gunnery Duels

Holding back the aircraft carrier is like trying to empty the Pacific Ocean with a teaspoon. Sort of ASB intervention it simply won't happen. Carriers were seen as being useful as soon as the aircraft that could fly from one were available. There is no reasonable way to butterfly away the...
  18. Pacific War with an American North Borneo

When did the U.S. have any part of Borneo?
  19. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

And they will fall to the Reich in a heart beat after the USSR falls. When I refer to the Balkans it is mainly Yugoslavia and Greece. Hungary, Romania & Bulgaria were all still part of the Axis ATL.
  20. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

The Allies do not HAVE many weapons bigger than 5MT, most are boosted fission weapons in the sub MT range. This is described in some of the discussion threads. The Allies had no intention of using nukes, NONE, at least against population centers. Dumb? Maybe, but it is internally consistent...
