  1. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

The reference to the other Taffy groups was in response to this Which seemed to indicate that all the Taffy groups were attacked. The CVE force was light on torpedoes, but it wasn't totally lacking in them. Taffy Three aircraft handlers and armers didn't have the time to go into the far...
  2. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

You are forgetting the 430-450 Taffy aircraft. The other two Taffy groups were separated from Taffy 3 by around 20-30 miles and were positioned outside of the invasion fleet. The Japanese go after them and they never even see the 'phibs on radar.
  3. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

Operational? No. The Japanese had most of their fleet at Leyte and the total force there included 35 destroyers. If you count every destroyer the IJN operated between 1941 and October 25 1944 the total is ~122 (some sources differ by a couple ships commissioning dates). Around 80 had been...
  4. WI No Washington Naval Treaty?

Alien Space Bats. The British had to chose between the U.S., a country that was already the richest on Earth, had unlimited resources, and shared both an Ocean and culture with the UK, a long land border with a critical Dominion, and was perfectly placed to take Bermuda, the Bahamas, and...
  5. WI No Washington Naval Treaty?

No Washington Treaty = UK Bankrupt, Japan Bankrupt, U.S. stuck with 200,000 tons of ships that will be obsolescent by 1938-39. Probable result would be a earlier global depression and a rather nasty European War right around 1936-38.
  6. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

Except by the time they were done with Taffy 3 they had had six CA & a DD shorn off by a combination of torpedoes, gunfire and aircraft attack.
  7. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

To be specific the Flag force (TF 77.1) 1 CL and 4 DD, the Northern Attack force (TF 78) had 24 DD, the Southern Force (TF 79) had 28 DD, the Close Covering force (TF 77.3) had 2 CA (RAN), 2 CL, 7 DD for a total of 2 CA, 3 CL, and 63 DD. The three Taffy CVE groups had an additional 9 DD and 14 DE
  8. Can the Japanese Get Luckier in the Pacific War?

No Solomons Campaign only matters to the Southwest Pacific Theater. It impacts the Central pacific Theater ony in that all the major fleet actions occur in the Manadates/Marianas. With out the Solomons you would likely see Tarawa on roughly the same schedule as IOTL, maybe with a significant...
  9. British and Japanese Fleets Engage in 1942

In the aircraft's actual combat debut half of them (6 of 12) appeared to be radar equipped based on the description of the action. The Albacore was not as wellliked as the Swordfish. It was apparently more difficult to fly and it is described as having considerable difficulty in making a rapid...
  10. Can the Japanese Get Luckier in the Pacific War?

Sorry you feel that way. It is the simple truth. Japan could not defeat the U.S. Utterly Impossible. Germany could not defeat the U.S. either. Germany, due to geographic advantages, could have forced a stalemate in certain, exceptionally unlikely circumstances (all related to a combination of...
  11. Red Dawn remake finally coming out?

About the only thing useful in that review is the shot of Isabel Lucas wearing slightly too much clothing. Since this is supposed to be a war film, I would feel better if at least ONE of the people holding weapons (on either side) seemed to have a passing understanding of which end the bullet...
  12. WI: The German stealth program continued?

There is no such thing as minimal cost when it comes to Stealth. The material is so expensive that it is heart stopping, the manufacture is exceptionally complex, and the tooling to build a prototype would bankrupt most countries. There is a reason that every country doesn't build its own...
  13. WI: The German stealth program continued?

All it takes is money, big piles of it. The BDR, wealthy as it was, didn't have that kind of money to spend on a shot in the dark program. Even if it did, it didn't have $200-250 million to spend per plane (once the program costs are included). The BDR could have built the prototype or it...
  14. British and Japanese Fleets Engage in 1942

I have to start with the fact that the original writer talks about Buffaloes at Pearl (where there weren't any engaged) somewhat shakes my confidence in his research. British carriers were woefully under defended. As has been pointed out the number of fighter available for CAP (16 Martlets, 9...
  15. Can the Japanese Get Luckier in the Pacific War?

Taking Oahu isn't luck, its ASB. As far as the OP, of course they could be luckier. The sub that hit the Sara could have hit her with a full spread and not just one torpedo. Hasey could have been 12 hours early on December 7th. Yorktown could have been lost at Coral Sea. A sub could...
  16. Japan wins the Battle of Leyte Gulf, then what?

The ASB allow the Planet to self destruct since they have the wand out. Leyte Gulf was a series of actions. The Japanese were utterly crushed in every one of them. I suppose you are actually referring to the Battle of Samar (aka "The Last Stand of the Tincan Sailors"). The Japanese in that...
  17. Timur Spares the Golden Horde

Comparing ANY nation/empire to the Nazis needs a LOT of justification. You didn't even try. You just threw out line that was supposed to be clever. It wasn't. What it was was off topic, disruptive, and a blatant attempt to derail the thread. That is, by definition, trolling. Go do some...
  18. Cajuns in an independent CSA.

Don't troll. There are any number of perfectly valid arguments that would serve to deconstruct this statement. This crap does not add to the discussion. If anything it derails it and trivializes what is a rather repellant argument. Cease and desist.
  19. DBWI: CH: Hitler's a bad guy

Thread locked. Next person who tries something like this will be banned so damned fast that they will catch pneumonia from the draft.
  20. Worst fighter of WWII

PLease don't violate the dead. Better to start a new thread than bump one that's be at rest for 25 months.
