  1. Best use of German resources in WWII?

It is important to keep in mind that the Reich;s production by 1942 was benefitting from the conquests it had acquired. It was at the very peak of its empire, extracting coal and bauxite (along with some iron ore) from France. Coal, copper, zinc, and critically manganese, from Czechoslovakia...
  2. Best fleet of WWII

Of course 1939 was their day. They were arguably the best combination punch afloat, especially considering the SB2U could handle double the bomb board of anything else (something that marks the USN dive bombers established with the SBC and the USN practice of have a VB and VS squadron on each...

Oops. Nixon from beyond the grave. I'll correct.
  4. Best fleet of WWII

Well, one problem with that is that the JNAF (specifically the 22nd Air Flotilla, the same command that dispatched the G3M that destroyed Force Z) had 25 A6M from the Yamada Unit that had been specifically flown into the region to provide escort for the bomber force if it became necessary (most...

  7. Best fleet of WWII

Comparing the early results of the RN in the Pacific are no more valid than comparing that of the USN based on Pearl Harbor. Both forces had heavy units forward deployed as "demonstration of resolve". The PoW and Repulse never had a prayer. There is no way the British would have sent Force Z...
  8. WI/PC. GAU-8 Armed "Firefly" tanks in co-op with M1 Abrams.

You would also have a lot of trouble keeping it loaded with ammo. A 'Hog has about a minute worth of firing, even a Abrams size hull doesn't have enormous storage (if you've ever been in one, or looked at the public blueprints you will see what I mean). There is also the range issue. By the...

  10. Best use of German resources in WWII?

You may be overestimating the Reich's production capabilities, especially compared to the Soviet Union. The Reich was also heavily dependent on Swedish iron ore throughout the war. There are many more, much less common elements needed to produce quality steel. The Reich was greatly limited in...

  12. WI/PC. GAU-8 Armed "Firefly" tanks in co-op with M1 Abrams.

Significant difference between attacking from above and firing against the front of an armored vehicle. It is also rather handy to be able to attrit that enemy a couple hundred miles before they reach your MLR.
  13. WI/PC. GAU-8 Armed "Firefly" tanks in co-op with M1 Abrams.

Sort of pointless. The GAU 8 has an effective range of 1,250 meters. The Abrams main gun has a demonstrated 90%+ one shot kill at 4,000 meters. Need to kill IFV? That is why they have the chain guns.

  19. Best fleet of WWII

Only problem here is that it isn't what the OP asked. If anything he made sure this sort of hold back would not apply by the opening conditions.
  20. Best fleet of WWII

To amplify on my earlier post regarding aircraft carrying capacity (was on my phone earlier) - The USN designed carriers with a far different design criteria than the RN. The U.S. ships were built to conduct operations in open ocean, well outside the range of land-based air and were considered...
