WI the Enterprise in Pearl Harbor?

Meh, two hits out of six attempts
  2. 'Sanity options' for the Italian army, 1935-42

Such a wonderful deal that all but ensures that the rest of the French Empire will be very hostile to Britain and could well end in Vichy joining the Germans.
  3. Do you think the Union would have won a Civil War beginning in 1856, 1852, or 1848?

There's a reason the Civil War happened when it did. It was the first time that the Presidency can be won without a single Southern state. Demographics would continue to move away from the slave states. Both sides are weaker materially the earlier you go, but the Union leadership is better. The...

WI Francis of Austria, son of Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy, lives to adulthood?

I agree that margaret would want henry and eleanor to be married, but i think catherine is likely to be kept in england unless things about her dowry are settled. ferdinand will no doubt still want her to marry either of the henrys.
  5. Deutschland Uber Alles?

Depends on your ideology. It could be a restoration of the monarchy, a liberal democracy or a socialist state.

'Sanity options' for the Italian army, 1935-42

Munich? That was Britain and Germany doing a great ' deal ' at the time, with perfidious Albion selling out an ally. No different that the UK doing a new deal, throwing the surrendered France under the bus, all to keep Benny neutral. Foreign Office thinks that will keep Italy busy digesting the...
  7. FRG withdraws from NATO

At the end of the day, the daily political difference is minimal. And it shows that the sensationalist scenarios set up here (invasion, dissolution of the Federal Republic or defectors) are completely unrealistic. The NATO countries would grumble, but they would not start a war.
  8. Armored trains post ww2

The Yugoslav war trains were weird. At various times they combined WW2 US hellcat tank destroyers, WW2 German AA guns, and late cold war top of the line ATGMs.
  9. WI/AHC : Stable, long lasting Rome.

The main problem is the lack of unity: Not since the middle ages has there been a hegemonic power capable of controlling the entire ancient Roman empire and re-claiming its legacy unchallenged. Instead, there were several pretenders with different arguments for legitimacy, but who were never...
  10. What if the InterWar RCN was given the same portional funding as the RAN?

Could I ask someone with better knowledge of the treaties to elaborate on the treaty chronologies that would have defined the RCN's decision making? Thank you in advance, M.
  11. FRG withdraws from NATO

At least from the context it seemed clear you were referring to the Present day. Frankly even asserting West Germany was an " occupied country" is still ridiculous outside of maybe West Berlin ( Which technically was occupied by the three powers but from what I understand by the 70s at the...
  12. Keeping the British Liberal Party flag flying high

The Liberals have held Bootle, Bury, Eccles, Ipswich, and Leeds North-East, while Chelsea, Liverpool Garston, and St. Marylebone have stayed Conservative. Socialist Labour have held Birmingham Aston, and Dagenham and taken Coventry South from the Liberals, jumping from...
  13. A 'smarter' NATO cartridge strategy 1950-1980?

Enhanced rifles issue in the first decades of the 21st century are not the same rifles which were issued in 1960 which are the ones I was talking about and referred to as "junk". The opinion of one SAS trooper about the Steyr F88 is not material as it was not referred to in my post. The...
  14. FRG withdraws from NATO

Yes but they never actually left NATO itself.
  15. WI the Enterprise in Pearl Harbor?

Good points. Torpedo nets were also something the Japanese considered and were looking for. IIRC, when Yoshikawa Takeo made his last report on December 6th, he noted the absence of torpedo nets.... Regards,

    Return of Horrible Educational Maps

The great thing about this little exercise in optical shock therapy is that, in all the subsequent posts, nobody commented on the choice of projection x'D It was a weapon of mass distraction! :D
  17. WI the Enterprise in Pearl Harbor?

YAQW. There was good reason for Enterprise to be berthed in that 'usual' spot; Halsey was Commander, Aircraft, Battle Force, and as such would be reporting directly to Kimmel, as would Pye. It would obviously be easier for him to report being on the 'base' side of Ford Island rather than the...

What if the InterWar RCN was given the same portional funding as the RAN?

I will not comment otherwise as I do not want to give away my own ideas on the matter however, I think the best option for Canada in the end is not dealing with a tragedy but building the nation from the start to better support a naval force. Have Canada develop its own naval force decades...
  19. Boldly Going: A History of an American Space Station

Unmanned they looked at a Titan flyer concept that did something similar. As for the mission profile we in the military tend to call it: "A sphincter spraining mission plan" :) Randy
