  1. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

The wrong group won the Civil War.
  2. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

Exactly. Be so much easier if they were cackling while twirling the mustaches. Instead it was like they were just going to work at a bank or as a bookkeeper.
  3. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

I did mention at some point that Spain in particular came out of the War in good shape, least damaged economy on the Continent, Portugal was also in good shape. Spain was, however, held back to a degree by Franco's policies. His way of doing things really didn't fit into the new world. Franco...
  4. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

The whole T/L started as a way to examine how Europe would have been impacted if the Reich had managed to put its plans in place, so there was a lot of horrible things. What really struck me was just how clinical, even professionally detached, the Party leadership looked at the goal of literally...
  5. Without excessive violence, stop the migrants

It is very much current politics, as evidenced by the very active threads on the subject in Chat. Locked
  6. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

There are lots of "immigrants" from the old USSR, actually they are citizens since the U.S. absorbed a good chunk of Siberia and the "brain drain" from the train wreck that is the USSR to Western Alaska is very high. The Soviets don't like it much, but when they tried to set up a "Berlin Wall"...
  7. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

New Zealand is a very junior player in the A4. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the term "overbearing", except it isn't just the Australians. The British, Americans, and even the Canadians sort of treat them like kid brothers/sisters (although the Canadians are very polite about...
  8. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

    1. Concentration camps yes. Outright Death Camps no. Once they had wiped out the Jewish population of Europe (save the few that were in Sweden, Switzerland, and those few who were protected in Italy) along with the Roma, their was no further need for the extermination effort. The rest of the...
  9. Could WW2 in Europe have ended sooner without unconditional surrender?

No, actually, it isn't. Hitler had long since demonstrated that the Reich's word was not to be trusted. Even if Hitler is gone, one of a slimy minions would still be running the show, and they were, if anything, less trustworthy than the big boss. What this sort of "deal" would have been was...
  10. Could WW2 in Europe have ended sooner without unconditional surrender?

Wouldn't work. Even in an ideal scenario, in addition to handing over war criminals, Germany would have to return all territory since at least 1938 and return the Rhineland to a DMZ. Anything else rewards the Reich for aggressive war and pissing all over international agreements.
  11. Could WW2 in Europe have ended sooner without unconditional surrender?

Well that's a week on the beach for peddling rather far out conspiracy theories. You REALLY don't want to play the Alex Jones card hereabouts.
  12. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

No gas. Just no mercy. The WAllies mined the waters around the Home Islands, then mined the Inland Sea, blockaded the country including surface ships operating out of Korea (the U.S. didn't take ALL of the Peninsula, but took enough to operate aircraft and shipping). That put single engine...
  13. Does Japan Have Any Chance Of Winning In WW2?

American subs worked very well, the Mark 14's detonator was a POS and torpedo itself required some modification (it is worth noting that the USN did not retire its last Mark 14 until 1971, so once it was put right it was very right). More on point, the USN "S" boats were quite effective if...
  14. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

Probably a mix of envy and horror. OTL has a Europe that does not include an area so contaminated that it has a wall built around it for the next thousand years or so. Japan was not effectively turned into a massive death camp, and China is engaged with the rest of the world. The other side is...
  15. The Anglo/American - Nazi War

Never really thought about it. The relationship is, as you mention, complex, but the Indians are not really seen as a threat, no one is.
  16. Strategically Pointless Battles of the First and Second World War?

The Heer was stretched thin logistically, but it is worth keeping in mind that there was considerable equipment, especially trucks, prime movers, and light transport that was lost in Africa (all told some 70,000 trucks were lost by the Axis in Africa or en route to the combat zone, around 2/3 of...
  17. Could WW2 in Europe have ended sooner without unconditional surrender?

Maybe, but doubtful. It wasn't just the WAllies who had to agree to stop with a negotiated surrender. Uncle Joe had to agree as well. So would Hitler. Stalin wanted Germany crushed as a threat against the USSR forever (which, BTW, he was successful at, he just underestimated how long the USSR...
  18. Does Japan Have Any Chance Of Winning In WW2?

Which, of course, matter not at all in the end game.
  19. Does Japan Have Any Chance Of Winning In WW2?

The U.S. had an EMBARGO, not a blockade. There would have been no possibility of an incident involving a Japanese ship. Simply not happening. The Japanese decision makers saw the U.S. exactly how some in this thread are trying to paint the country. All that is needed is to bloody the nose and...
  20. Does Japan Have Any Chance Of Winning In WW2?

Well, Operation Galvantic (Tarawa) was conducted out of New Zealand (Wellington, to be specific). That is 2,900 miles from the atoll. It was a convenient place to launch from because the 2nd Marine Division was refitting and recuperating there after rotating out of the Solomons. However, The...
