  1. How much different would cancelling operation Barbarossa make on WW2

He wanted to fight WW2, to cement American Power against who doesn't matter. Although, it's worth noting, that beyond the obvious Japanese racism, he was way racist about Germans Way before the Nazis too.

An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

This is exactly why I don't agree with a free Baghdad. It's utterly nonsensical for both nations that don't really care for Arab sovereignty while it just creates a scenario where both nations can potentially undermine each other and thus ruin the newly gained friendship between the two nations...
  3. WI: The Dutch East India Company reaches Korea, and at the same time, the Netherlands, which owns the VOC, immediately colonises the Korean Peninsula

OK, so I discovered this thread through the Kick and Ban Notices, but I feel I must highlight this: I eagerly, but possibly in vain, await an explanation of this lingusitic bombshell.

    Visual art alternate history discussion

Welp, I wanted to post in this thread when it was first opened, but then I forgot about it completely. I think I can contribute a little in discussing alternate architecture and painting. This post of mine is very much inspired by the TL in my signature "And all Nations Shall Gather to It"...
  5. AHQ: Stable succession system in Byzantium

Too much opposition from both camps but I believe if Charlemagne really wanted he could have done it

What could have been some alternate Cradles of Civilization?

I assume we take cradle to mean "city states or empire with clear agriculture and domesticstion" The mississippi was a cradle OTL, just a late comer and it's agricultural practice was one that eventually led to the cities being abandoned for higher yields. Personally, I think the Amazon and...
  7. WI: Syria and Lebanon never separated?

What are the chances that a united Syria-Lebanon falls into a full-scale civil war? It would make the real-life civil wars in Lebanon and Syria look less complicated by comparison, there's so many factions that could emerge from such a hypothetical conflict.

  10. WI Harold Godwinson loses, but lives?

Damn! Just realized I put this one in the wrong forum. Can a mod move it over to pre-1900?
  11. PDWs as spin-offs from the 'Artillery Luger' in widespread use in 1915-1945

IIRC I've specified western front already. 1915 is not pre-ww1. Artillery crews have had firearms issued, that were supposed to be used for both defence of persons and their 'big' gear, like the artillery pieces. Happened centuries before mechanization.

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

A little something I whipped up - The Land of Israel, as Promised in the Five Books of Moses This is an attempt at representing the maximal extent of Israel that God seems to have promised to the Hebrews in the Books of Moses, specifically in these passages - Genesis 15:18-21 "In the same day...
  13. How much different would cancelling operation Barbarossa make on WW2

It's magic see They had X oil, and otl the used Z oil in barbarossa, and lasted until 1945 But in this scenario, they have X oil, add N oil (imported from the Soviets) and don't use Z oil, but run out in 1943. In real numbers this math is impossible.
  14. AHC/WI: 1979 unification of Iraq and Syria succeeds

If Syria and Iraq were successfully unified, what would the new nation be called? "Syraq" sounds like an excellent portmanteau.
  15. The Reform Party: 20 Years of History

I understand that, they'll be out of office as the executive of New York City and State for at least 12 years ITTL. But also, as a New Yorker, I feel like I grew up watching the Dems in my state repeatedly clench defeat from the jaws of victory. Sometimes, it almost felt like they were trying to...
  16. How much different would cancelling operation Barbarossa make on WW2

Extreme rationing and reductions in consumption which greatly lowered combat effectiveness, as well as assuming a defensive posture - the army's consumption in Winter 1941-42 was 1/3 of its August 1941 consumption. In 1942, they were only able to go on the offensive on a single segment of the...
  17. How much different would cancelling operation Barbarossa make on WW2

A fuel reserve does not consume fuel. Not doing Barbarossa saves fuel, lots and lots of fuel. Importing a lot more fuel is a lot more fuel. You are the one who is insisting it doesn't change anything! Yeah, and the Number of troops (and quality and equipment) in sicily would have been the same...
  18. WI Harold Godwinson loses, but lives?

OTL's Battle of Hastings stands out as a battle that was both decisive and close run, and the importance of the battle in the course of history is widely accepted. Consequently, it's long been fertile ground for speculation by AH fans. However, most of the speculation involves what might have...
