  1. Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

    Because of the river.
  2. Hong Kong under the Republic of China

Well given the Chinese constitution at the time (which is the only document we have describing the state theorized in this thread - see my second link in my post) it would be quite likely that any Republic of China that survived through the 1940s into the 1990s on that basis would probably: 1...
  3. Hong Kong under the Republic of China

Honestly this depends on a lot of factors. Firstly, Hong Kong only really started on the road of representative democracy in the 1980s after the Anglo-Chinese agreement on the transfer of Hong Kong. So conceivably, had the Republic of China won the Chinese Civil War (either in 1936 using the...
  4. Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

So, but for $5 million in the 1850s Ciudad Juarez (as part of greater El Paso) would be part of the United States and Arizona would have a port......
  5. EqualX Project

Using that map and the previous map with the borders, I whipped up May 23, 1990 relief with political borders (some are of course a bit off for the time especially the EEZs):
  6. Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

Have any of you guys visited these pages: http://www.ict.griffith.edu.au/wiseman/History.html ? He has a something like this for the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, English/British...

Pretty much! Can't see Poland and Czechoslovakia going along with it in any TL really. Military alliance or at least military assistance treaty between Poland and Hungary, sure. Full blown Austro-Hungarian...sorry..Danubian Confederation...that's another story.

Sure. You can read how Stalin and Churchill viewed it from OTL 1943-1944 here: https://history.state.gov/historicaldocuments/frus1945Berlinv01/d330 Churchill's idea didn't seem to get very well developed and seemed to change a bit (at one point Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Poland were...

Actually reading that article and looking at the translation of the Russian wikipedia article the sense one gets is that Stavka is the equivalent of a Supreme Command/Staff in the Field. Hence there was a Stavka in 1914-1918 and 1941-1945. But none in 1918-1941.

Regarding Austria it will no doubt be separated from Germany again. Given the OTL evolution of the view of Austria as the Nazi's first victim, we could see any number of scenarios come into play. The Churchillian idea of a Danubian Confederation, ironically enough, in TTL could come into play...

Funny fact is that Stavka isn't an acronym and the use of all caps is actually an error.
  12. WI: Prevention of the Break-up of Yugoslavia by looking back to WW2, and more

Kragujevac is also more central as a location within Serbia too... However with Kragujevac as the capital of SR Serbia, Tito would still be in Belgrade no? He would probably still be unaware of the deal even if it was a SR capital. After all, I'm sure there were local communist party structures...
  13. WI: Prevention of the Break-up of Yugoslavia by looking back to WW2, and more

Or alternatively, perhaps the capital of Serbia could be moved to say Nis, while the federal capital remains as Belgrade? Because Belgrade serving as capital of both Serbia and Yugoslavia did have the effect of feeding to the idea that Yugoslavia was just greater Serbia.

That example works too. Pakistan was also in SEATO and CENTO. Australia was also in multiple defensive arrangements (ANZUS, SEATO, Five Power Defence Arrangements)... How so? When have alliances established by democratic Western nations limited such nations from freely establishing other...

Not sure why everyone seems to think Norway is an "either/or" position between Sweden-Finland defence and Entente defence. Much as how the UK and US was in NATO, CENTO and SEATO and the US was in NATO and the Rio Pact/Treaty there really isn't any reason Norway couldn't sign up to a Scandinavian...

Well even if Poland isn't IN something like the WU, it is quite conceivable that the immediate pre-war guarantees and agreements are renewed and strengthened on the part of Poland, France and the UK. Thus you get something like the Western Union and an ATL Warsaw Pact (UK, France, Poland and...
  17. WI: The Ottoman’s “Enver-Leontiev Treaty” came to pass?

All very important points showing just now much other problems this would have. To note though: 1. We aren't sure which of the Aegean Islands were specified but the effect is likely to be the same regardless. [Can you expound more on the islands you were referring to by the way? It was quite...
  18. WI: The Ottoman’s “Enver-Leontiev Treaty” came to pass?

Well the map shows war aims which don't necessarily have to pan out. And by late 1914 I believe Serbian war aims had been to incorporate the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes into it. See the map further up thread. This was OTL what the Allies had promised to Italy, Serbia and Montenegro...

Hungary has Ruthenia at the moment and borders the USSR like they did in OTL from 1939. WU plus Poland and Czechoslovakia seems most likely.
