WI the US annexes Baja California?

funnily enough, that's roughly what I have it set as for the same TL I mentioned earlier in this thread :P based on the historical Republic of Sonora, that state was admitted to the union and then later on Baja split off as "West Sonora" (it was partly to side-step actually using Baja California...

WI the US annexes Baja California?

for my own project, i've thought that both Alta and Baja California would be admitted together as one state and then, decades later, they split amicably with their territory being mostly the same as the current Californias, except for San Diego, which is part of Baja as its state capital and...

Implausible PODs that would make an interesting world?

expanding on that, if Habsburg Spain was maintained, then they'd also have a huge American empire as well ;)

Implausible PODs that would make an interesting world?

Khwarezmia and/or the Ilkhanate maintain power to a degree and, as a result, a somewhat recognizable Iran emerges by the present-day which is similar to its OTL counterpart but with a Mongolic coating, such as having a Khan instead of a Shah

How would English culture develop if the Normans are defeated?

i've been trying to figure out alot of this for a long time now since one of the PODs for my ASB ATL is exactly this ;) one thing i decided on, though very unprofessionally, is that the English language is called Anglish and, naturally, doesn't have the French influences that it gained IOTL, but...

Implausible PODs that would make an interesting world?

similarly, one that i want to look into (if i can find sources on it, of course) is if the Chanca people (pretty sure that's their name) weren't defeated by the Inca and took them over instead, and how that could affect the dynamics of other Andean civilizations, particularly the Chimu/Moche...

Who else could colonise the "Philippines"?

hadn't known that, and an excellent point--i'll have to remember that

Who else could colonise the "Philippines"?

China is probably the next-most likely, and i'm not just saying that because of their proximity: iirc, for a time the Philippines were/could have been controlled by Chinese pirates (i learned about this in a book on travel legends and folklore, been meaning to look closer into it) which were set...

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

my point was that Sicily really was controlled by Spain for a long, long time before becoming part of Italy XD it actually contributed a fair bit to how Cosa Nostra came to be

    Your personal Nintendo adaptation idea.

another thing which just occurred to me is that that might well set a bit of a precedent in Smash Bros. to include literary characters, since presumably ITTL there would be little to no other Harry Potter media since Nintendo would have exclusive rights. or maybe it would set a different...

Implausible PODs that would make an interesting world?

the Greeks aren't betrayed as to the secret path to their rear flank at the Battle of Thermopylae and, therefore, the Spartans and others hold out until the main body of the Spartan army arrive, meaning they win the battle and the TL goes from there. i've got a relatively vague TL idea on this...

Spanish Sicily would make more sense ;)

    Your personal Nintendo adaptation idea.

i've been intrigued with this idea ever since i heard of it: for a time, Nintendo was vying for exclusive rights to adaptations of the Harry Potter series but Rowling turned them down. imagine if it had gone through--we could conceivably have Harry frickin' Potter as a Super Smash Bros...

Have cryptozoology play a part in politics

bit of a funfact, they also have a genus name lined up and waiting for if they're found to really exist: Champtanystropheus (the descriptions of Champ tend to be more like that reptile as opposed to a plesiosaur)

    Give me your alt-history fashions

i haven't come up with many, but here's what i do have. all of these only necessarily apply to my ASB ATL--i even have a whole section for the subject in the Word document i put my notes for it in, though it's not nearly as expansive as alot of other sections in the same file--and are therefore...

A.H.C.: the most primitive spaceflight possible

iirc there was an early attempt in Ancient China (i can't remember any names or years, though) which involved strapping a guy to a chair and firing him into the sky with rockets/fireworks of the period. unfortunately, the guy came back down in about a million pieces.

WI: World War 2 had a South America theatre?

i do have to wonder if they'd even bother, what with said South American theater being so isolated. then again, iirc there was a South American theater to World War I as well--maybe that could be used for context here?
