    The real question is under your timeline does Malta need full Combat Jets or could they survive without or with only ground attack birds?

    Best chance would be a "suitcase" nuke on the State of the Union speech. So you would end up with an Acting President, and new Government to handle what is left. Who could do it, Terrorist cell slips one in or a Russian Operative does it either by going Rogue or order to.

    I agree with much of what you said, but given the area Malta has, it could use a gunship to take out any invaders navy. And it was to give them more of a strike bird the a fighter at least in the early days. Now a good Jet with multiple roles would be the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk.

    would Malta need jets or would something like Douglas A-1 Skyraider work for them? At least into the early 90's.
