Long Island has tons, and a lot are named for the original 13 tribes present, although some have altered spellings and such; Wantagh, Shinnecock, Massapequa, Montauk, Setauket, Patchogue, Matinecock, Sagaponack, Amagansett, Nissequogue etc. My faves are Quogue and Speonk

  8. Latin as the official language of united Italy?

Funny, I also 1st picked up Italian from my boss who was from La Spezia (alright, he was actually from Volastra in the Cinque Terre, but close enough) and was sometimes mocked for it by friends from Florence- they seem to consider their Italian the 'best' and kind of looked down at other variations.
  9. catalan england

I don't think I'd call either one of them 'Catalan'. Alienor natively spoke 'Poitevin' , related to catalan but sort of a bridge between langue d'oc and d'oil, and I believe she spoke French at court in France and England. Richard probably spoke Poitevin and French as well.
  10. Repeated Chinese and Mongolian Incursions into North America

Hmmm, I don't think so. take a look at the link. it is actually a creatism website trying to debunk evolution, and spewing out some weird 'facts' ...dinosaurs and man living together, the acropolis and sphinx apparently being copied from 'kublai khan's temple' (in nevada!) mongolians fighting...
  11. No moorish occupation of Iberia

So? The pod is over 600 yrs before the inquisition. In this tl there may not be an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and the catholics may not have fear, surprise or ruthless efficiency as their weapons. Just because one expects the spanish inquisition doesn't mean it's gonna happen. ;)
  12. Vijayanagara Ascendant. A South Indian TL

wow, I take it then that Vijaya engineers have made combustion engines and developed cars (or rather, rathas). Which fuel did they use? And if von dresky has one does that mean they are being exported to europe? Looks like Vijaya is certainly a future 1st world power...
  13. Of Butterflies and Bombs

i'm finding this to be a very interesting and unique tl. chapter iii probably needs to be fleshed out a little bit. it does seem a little asb, but not entirely implausible. were there revolutionary thoughts in sao paolo at the time? you're a good writer so more details on how the high seas...
  14. Louis VII and Eleanor of Aquitaine have a son

Just because she bears a son does not mean that Louis will stay with her. They may divorce anyway, he may try to send her to a convent or something. I think her son will inherit her lands regardless, plus Louis' domains. France may be a strong, centralized nation much sooner in its' history...
  15. French Algeria

um, what? humans are genetically programmed to be racist? or are you speaking for yourself?
  16. They Call it Civilization!

  17. Vijayanagara Ascendant. A South Indian TL

A few thoughts... It seems that the Sikh Empire never formed ittl...iirc, otl the sikhs militarized due to persecution from the Mughals, then after the fall of the Mughals took a large amount of land to form their empire...did any of this happen in ttl? While the British certainly would not...
  18. They Call it Civilization!

    you got mine
  19. WI Eleanor of Aquitaine doesn't marry Henry II

LOL!I would never call the dear lady a slut, merely reporting what others had said about her...
  20. Palestine Canal. Feasible?

seems that this would be a salt water canal...can't see how that would be a good thing. You might be able to divert the jordan into a series of reservoirs, but still i think the entire endeavour would be a fiasco. but what a glorious fiasco! although it just might bring more moisture...
