Also, another thought; how well could the Beiyang Army actually do against the Japanese?
  2. AHC/WI: CP China?

Idea: in 1915, Japan seized Qingdao from the Germans and enforced the so-called Twenty-One Demands on Yuan Shikai's government. What if instead of agreeing, he had refused to budge and the Japanese had gone to war with China, effectively making China an ally of the CP?

  9. The Red Banner Yet Flies: An Alternate Polish-Soviet War

Again, not saying that the Germans supported Poland. I'm just saying that a lot of people in the West thought they were.
  10. The Red Banner Yet Flies: An Alternate Polish-Soviet War

I probably should have explained this further, but as I said, the Western (mostly British) media was very pro-Soviet at the time due to two (mistaken) perceptions: that a. the Germans were backing the Poles (they weren't, as you say), and b. Poland was a continuation of the whole Mitteleuropa...

Different weather is a generally-accepted type of POD. Let's just say it was a nicer day in eastern Poland (or rather, western Russia) than OTL, eh?
  17. The Fountainhead Filibuster: Tales from Objectivist Katanga

You're actually quite wrong in this regard. Even after the collapse of Siad Barre's government, the breakaway Republic of Somaliland and the Islamic Courts Union (based on Xeer) was actually running the country quite nicely. If the USA, as per usual, hadn't decided to go "oh fuck, peaceful...
  18. DBWI: Americans Won at Midway?

Such a victory would no doubt have allowed the US to finish the war much sooner, most likely by late 1944 or 1945, as compared to early 1946 in OTL. More interesting though are the ramifications for Europe. An earlier defeat of the Japanese would have allowed the US to refocus on the European...
  19. Polish-Soviet War Interest Gauging Thread

As one of Trotsky's military acolytes, he had Left Communist leanings personally, but was mostly apolitical. His life was the military, you see, and as long as the Red Army didn't suffer, he usually didn't care. Such a man is perfect for the post of War Commissar in my opinion.
  20. When and why was Britain passed up?

Because they're gigantic. A huge population, and massive amounts of resources do help industrialization.
