  1. Flag Thread III

It'll be a democratic USSR, but one which managed to pursue a more gradual and pragmatic approach to change (admittedly, not too plausible). I couldn't imagine such "strong" ethnic nationalist flags as the Russian tricolor or the Ukrainian bicolor being used for constituent republics within a...
  2. Flag Thread III

I decided to make a full family of Soviet flags for a TL in which the USSR is reconstituted as the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics. After learning about the non-communist use of a hammer and sickle in the Austrian coat of arms, I was persuaded by this poster's argument that the symbol could...
  3. Map Thread VI

I'm working on a timeline with a 1930s PoD, and I've been doing a lot of cartographic micromanagement just for fun. How do you like these redrawn regions of France?
  4. DBWI: Dr. Ernesto Guvera has died at the age of 81

    OOC: Psst, it's Guevara...
  5. Asian-American POTUS?

True, the guy in those pictures that Mr Bondoc posted doesn't look Asian at all.
  6. Alternate Partition of Germany

He was rather fond of the old monarchies. One quote of his that monarchists like to use:
  7. Challenge: Development of a common language for Europe

What Stevep and Dathi said. It would have to involve a Roman POD, and the best you could hope for is a situation like China or the Arab world.
  8. WI Michael Jackson never had skin problems?

It got worse over time though. At least in 1987 he still had a nose.
  9. Checking the plausibility and effects of a maximum Pakistan

East Pakistan had a greater population than West Pakistan until the 1970s.
  10. AH Challange: Rupert's Land Independant

I have to admit, I found the notion of Rupert's Land appealing from the first time I saw it on a historical map. Are you sure on this point? Because the alternate name for it was New Britain, which sounds a lot better.
  11. Checking the plausibility and effects of a maximum Pakistan

If you wanted to have a 3-part Pakistan you could have the state of Hyderabad join. :p
  12. WI: No 9/11?

The Kurds were not being massacred after the Gulf War.
  13. Plausibe Different Nation-States

I wonder what name he would have used for it... Judea?
  14. Challenge: Majority Catholic US

That's what the United States does in the infamous (and poorly thought out) "New World Moral Order" map from 1942. With all of Middle America, the Caribbean and the Philippines part of the US, I imagine it would have a Catholic majority.
  15. Plausibe Different Nation-States

You mean a Hungarian-German-Romanian mixed culture.
  16. Africa

Ditto. It's widely accepted that Greenland, Asiatic Russia and Asiatic Turkey are not part of Europe.
  17. Africa

Europe's area is about 10 million km^2; Africa's area is about 30 million km^2, so about three times as big.
  18. Rio de Janeiro falls to the French during the Seven Years War

That was at the end of the Seven Years War, not the end of the ARW.
  19. An Alternate Space Race

On the subject of latitude, how conceivable do you think it is that Germany could make a deal with Turkey or (better yet) Italy to use their territory for launch sites?
  20. An Alternate Space Race

I'll have to read up on how important latitude is. In fact, Baikonur is on the same latitude as Maine, and it's only slightly more southerly than Bavaria.
