  1. The South Doesn't Secede

Alaska's independence party was why I included them in the list. But as lovely an idea as Alaskan independence may be, I think it a whole lot more likely to happen if the United States doesn't include a "you can check out, but you can never leave" mentality.
  2. The South Doesn't Secede

I don't know about a "silly squabble", but without a Constitutional amendment to forbid secession, feelings on the issue of whether it is allowed are going to be divided for a long time, and all the while you're going to find that secessionist movements don't have the civil war to show how the...
  3. What Are YOUR Predictions For HT's THE GRAPPLE & IN AT THE DEATH ?

I'd like to see Morrel and Rommel meet in one of the future books (assuming the latter hasn't been killed in some throwaway sentence in a previous book). Reading their reactions to the revelation of a cloning project would be a highlight of the series.
  4. No more Classics in school

Well, at least for my education, using Latin to learn passive voice in German would have been impossible on the basis that Latin wasn't available as a subject until I had been learning German for four years (Latin being an optional Secondary School subject, and German being a compulsory Primary...
  5. No more Classics in school

I don't think that Spanish is usually classed as one of the 'useless' ones. In any case, I would agree with the sentiment. There may be more Chinese speakers in the world, but one is more likely to speak to French and German speakers than Chinese speakers if you live in Britain. I'd like to...
  6. No more Classics in school

Since the curriculum for Scotland is different from the one in England, I imagine you might see some migration to Scotland of young couples starting a family, especially if private schools are beyond their reach or contradictory to the parents' ideology. If the Scottish School system begins to...
  7. U.S. Joins the CP in the Great War

To be honest, if the US is stolidly on the side of the CP (as in, they are in the war from day one), I don't see the UK joining in the war. The UK is surely going to realise it won't have a hope of holding Canada in a UK-US war. I would forsee two possible paths: 1) The UK sits down with...
  8. Alternate American Street Gangs

Gangsta rap would be way wierder? I'm doin' alien hos like Captain Kirk, Then I pull out mah phaser an' I go berserk, Yo like a redshirt, wooka, yo ain't got no force, An' when I phaser yo ass I won't show no remorse, I got more pressed latinum than MC Quark, an' on a Five-Year Mission ahma...
  9. Alternate names for America?

What about some latin variation of "Far East"? Columbus was trying to get to India, so if someone with the same idea had named the continent, the name might be chosen to suggest that the new lands were in the east, not the west, even if one had to sail west to get there.
