  1. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

In this case, a "source of concern" means that you are about to be outnumbered and overwhelmed by millions of enemy troops on either side. Democracies such as America have invaded other countries for a lot less. Hence why I say this faux outrage for Germany declaring war is, in my opinion...
  2. Germany Crushed in 1939, Impacts on Japan

Any chance this could get meaningful results?
  3. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

Russia could not afford to let Serbia be destroyed by Austria-Hungary because Russia would then lose pretty much all influence in the Balkans. The Central Powers having all the Balkans under their grasp would threaten Russia greatly.
  4. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

So two of your neighbors who surround you on either side mobilizing millions of men is not a valid concern for Germany? So often on these forums, posters come to the defense of Britain and her intervention(s), citing national security/defense concerns, but whenever a country like Germany does...
  5. Germany Crushed in 1939, Impacts on Japan

Just like the title; assuming the Allies launch a full-blown invasion of Germany during the Battle of Poland and defeat Germany, what would be the effects on Japan and the war against China?
  6. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

In my opinion, Serbia is definitely partly to blame, but part of the problem was that both the Central Powers and the Entente made Serbia a keystone to their prestige and diplomatic survival, at least in the Balkans. There was no way for Austria-Hungary to back down without risking all the...
  7. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

Declaration of war was not as significant as mobilization. Your entire narrative is turned upside down by this distinction. France superficially appearing peaceful does not mean that they were actually peaceful or had noble intentions. Do you ever step back and realize that you may be the...
  8. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

This is correct. According to Sean McMeekin, Prince Alexander told the Czar that he would accept the ultimatum in full if that is what the Czar wished. He didn't.
  9. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

France mobilized before Germany did. Russia mobilized before Germany did, even after a German ultimatum. Britain did nothing of substance until it was too late. Frankly I find the idea that the Central Powers "started" the war to be completely absurd.
  10. Could Russia have refused to protect Serbia from a A-H invasion?

Germany was pushing for a localized war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, hoping that Austria would crush the Serbs, causing a diplomatic realignment in the Balkans, reversing the trends of Italy and Romania being wooed into the Entente. Germany did not want a war with Russia.
  11. Axis Best Case - WW2

An isolationist president would give the Japanese a free hand in China and may voluntarily give up the Philippines. Japan under those circumstances wouldn’t want to fight anyways
  12. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

I think at that point a lot has to do with how the bombers are used and what type of defensive armament they have. If they are ordered by Hitler to attack London and Birmingham from the start, they wouldn’t have much effect, but if they are used correctly, who knows? There is a lot of debate how...
  13. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

IIRC @wiking has in the past talked about Operation Eisenhammer. In my mind, a small strategic bomber force would complement rather than replace the tactical aircraft
  14. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

Germany certainly couldn’t support the massive fleets fielded by the U.S. and Britain, however a smaller, precision force could have made an impact. If it wasn’t historically, it certainly could have been with a few simple changes
  15. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

My question is how Goering being replaced would influence this debate. By Implication I’m asking how influential he was in this debate and the designs in the debate.
  16. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

Again, that’s not the point. How about we answer the “what if” here instead of coming up with reasons why you can’t pose the “what if” in the first place. I really don’t understand why having someone else, or Goering, be more competent is so beyond the pale that it’s not worth addressing.
  17. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

That’s not addressing the point. Sure, it may be like let that Hitler would trade up, but that’s not the question. The assumption is that he does, and the question is how this changes aircraft development
  18. Schnellbomber vs Heavy Bomber?

How about Wever? von Greim? Or let’s say Hitler makes an exception for Milch? Perhaps Goering ITTL is competent. I’m not trying to create a TL here, the point isn’t trying to come up with a specific person but address the question of how a more competent Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe would...
  19. Axis Best Case - WW2

Let’s not exaggerate, if all of those things occur, Rommel is going to enjoy the beeches on the Persian Gulf
