  3. Abolishing slavery in a victorious Confederacy: not so easy

Are the neo-Confederates writing the American history sections in English history books? Yes slavery wasn't the sole cause of the Civil War but it was the MAIN cause and the other reasons aren't even close to it in importance as secondary reasons. What was the immediate cause of secession?-the...
  4. Abolishing slavery in a victorious Confederacy: not so easy

Me got a question. Exactly what issue-when it came to the" political issue of states rights"-did the Confederacy decide to form and fight over ? Also some contemporary quotes detailing what "states rights" issue they were fighting for would be helpful.

  6. Abolishing slavery in a victorious Confederacy: not so easy

The argument that the South would have willing let slavery go because it wasnt profitable usually goes hand in hand with the argument that the South wasnt fighting mainly to preserve slavery. Both points are not correct.
  7. Abolishing slavery in a victorious Confederacy: not so easy

Wow. From their Constitution it could be inferred that keeping slavery was important to the Confederates.Almost something they would be willing to fight about!

In this TL some of Bush's shine rubbed off on him-but remember he wasnt re-elected.
  12. ID4 Aftermath

No they didnt. The 1st (moderate) Bush was re-elected and won the Noble Peace Prize for a Middle East peace settlement. So I imagine he also worked for a "kinder, gentler" GOP as well. Quayle ,who could definitely be considered a neo-con,just had 1 term and was defeated by Gore in 2000. So the...
  13. ID4 Aftermath

At 1st it proabaly would be militaristic and xeno-phobic. Maybe until it enoutered a group of peaceful aliens. Imagine if they enouctered a peaceful; group of the same species from the invasion-that would be a really difficult situation. I agree about Whitmore.
  14. ID4 Aftermath

Thanks. I also had the idea that this could result in a United Earth government a la Star Trek.
  15. ID4 Aftermath

Thanks. Well everyone can contribute to the timeline. Pick a ship like I did and do a brief synopsis of the role it played in the invasion for instance.

  19. No Southern Strategy in 1968

I disagree completely. If the broad defintion of being conservative means being against change or if the more "modern political usage" of being conservative means being for limited government ( which is why Barry Goldwater and others in the GOP said they were against Civil Rights )...
