Well, until you mentioned it I was utterly unaware of this taboo, though it is now addressed in the Gurkani Alam pages. So I learned a thing! And it was overcome in OTL in the 19th century (probably with severe prodding by the British), so I see no reason why it shouldn't be overcome in other TLs...

They've obviously not actually read the TL, in particular the bits where I make sweeping statements like 'technology is about a generation more advanced than in OTL'. The technologies that you listed on the blog are the highlights to give a comparison to OTL; obviously for them to work there are...
