Italy key to German victory in ww1?

Thanks for sharing those, i've never heard of them before. I assume they're obscure paper projects found burried in some archive?

Italy key to German victory in ww1?

Doesn't seem to have been a serious issue, those ships received the go ahead to start construction before being stopped by the war, and iirc some of the guns were actually build and used as artillety during the war, so transportation couldn't have been that impossible.

    Dreadnoughts vs Pre-dreadnoughts 1914

How would the upgraded German Pre-Dreadnoughts of WW2 fare against a vintage 1906 Dreadnought?

    Poorer Italy

Caporetto would be too late i think, it does take some time to smash things to bits and pieces, but i'm confident that incompetence always finds a way when there plausibly is one.

    Poorer Italy

The Italian WW1 campaign goes south even more than OTL and the fighting ends up stabilizing on top of the industrial heartland of Northern Italy, the Milan and Turin regions, that end up blown to pieces.

    Improve Austria-Hungary military by 1914

Innsbruck to Lemberg goes through multiple mountains, even today that's not an easy route. Can't get a direct route from Innsbruck to Lviv form the railway site, but it's about 9 hours from Innsbruck to Prague and Lviv is still a bit further out. I'd say 13 hours even today would not be...

Italy key to German victory in ww1?

A battleship at the time needs about a thousand men, and as much supporting it at the land. A bigger navy doesn't make a noticeable difference manpower wise if you're talking about two countires with 35 and 50 million people respectively. In the case of A-H the navy was manned by people who...

    WI No WW1 in 1914?

What was the SPDs stance on the navy as a whole? I know that the liberals were for it, seeing how it was far easier to advance in the ranks of the navy than in the army where aristocrats had a firm grip on who gets promoted, and conservatives too should be somewhat in favor due to the interests...

    WI No WW1 in 1914?

During the triple alliance negotiations in 1900 the Italians more or less demanded that A-H build up a larger, more sea worthy navy that then may support the Italian one against the French in case of war. It's safe to say that Italy until about 1950 didn't know itself what it really wanted and...

    Improve Austria-Hungary military by 1914

Here's a list of companies in Austria-Hungary, more than half of them are railway companies or related to railways. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:K.k._privilegiertes_Unternehmen If anything less is needed, bigger, more consolidated companies have easier access to funding and you get...

    WI No WW1 in 1914?

The Mediterranean would become quite crowded by 1920, your 20 French BBs with 20 planned A-H and 20 Italian ones, with 4 + of Russian BBs behind the straits and 2 Turkish ones and whatever they and the Greeks may buy until 1920.

    Improve Austria-Hungary military by 1914

OTL Austria-Hungary overslept the general European arms race that has been going on since at least the mid 1890s, everyone has been spending at their limits and A-H was the last one to join in. Necessary reforms and modernizations were only began around 1910 and barring a war would have taken...

Was the rise of China inevitable?

"Rise" or "recovery"? The only true "rise" were the Western offshoots countries, North and South America as well as Australia/New Zealand that have been build on top of hunter-gatherers or few existing state societies where population collapsed by an apocalyptic 95 %. Some kind of "rise" was...

    WI No WW1 in 1914?

Nicholas II had surrounded himself with loyal yes men, he's not giving an inch and has mad that clear the past decades of his rule, and without the war there's an intact security apparatus to keep shooting protesters for years if necessary, but that will take its toll, internally with more and...

    WI No WW1 in 1914?

The increasing number of strikes in Russia, from 220 in 1910 to 4100 in the first half of 1914 alone, probably means they'd be unable to do anything else besides hanging onto power by all means, very brutal means. Lenin himself claimed that the war postponed the revolution, so in the worst case...

AHC largest Austrian-Hungarian navy by 1914

There's a slight problem with that scenario. OTL A-Hs military secured funding and started massive modernization efforts around 1910 without such a war, but by then it was too late, it would have taken a few more years after 1914 to finish and show results. The issue is that A-H overslept the...

AHC largest Austrian-Hungarian navy by 1914

No one really planned that the British would be in any war,r ight? And their joining OTL supposedly hang in the balance. So with that original assumption it would be France + Russia vs Germany + A-H, and Italy may be joining the French in this. Now what would the French do here? would they...

AHC largest Austrian-Hungarian navy by 1914

What already existed by 1914 was orders of magnitude bigger than anything the Austrian/A-H navy has had until 1900 owing to more recent lobbying by industrialists and competent naval officers who somehow learned politics. Any more is rather unreasonable, you could work at the edges a bit, say...

Italy key to German victory in ww1?

Do the Italians even have enough capacity at the bases in Southern Italy to accept the A-H navy? I remember reading a paper where this was an issue causing friction during negotiations in the triple alliance a decade before the war. And does A-H have enough rail capacity to push 60 more...

WI France ceded louisiana to Austria, not Spain, in 1762?

Slavery got banned in Austria during the Napoleonic Wars, how would that work with other slave states in the US and the whole issure of emancipation after it's bought in the mid 1800s? Would this derail the American Civil War? Speed it up?
