:p Our fifth-generation Brazil-sucks-i'm-a-german colonos would have a field day.
  2. Flag Thread III

Makes me think of an ATL where the Brazilian Empire survives and Gaston d'Eu is recognized as the legitimate king of France via the Orleanists culminating in a Franco-Brazilian Union down the line. :D

  4. Alternative Dating Systems?

And i was here thinking it was dating as in love, as if you were asking how something like polyamory could have become widespread and popular. :p I think a more influent Russia or *Russia would have more people using the julian calendar.
  5. AHC: American Colonies in Africa

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=QAzP6_NFGc0&list=PL5DD220D6A1282057#t=1366 I just found out that the American Colonization Society, the one that colonized Liberia, had Congress funding on its infancy. Perhaps in a POD where the ACS kept receiving government subsidies it...

Even if de jure the Insular Government of the Philippines was a territory de facto it tends to be considered a colony. No?
  7. WI: A different handling of the Dutch Revolt

Hm, interesting. Would he be willing to compromise, though?
  8. WI: A different handling of the Dutch Revolt

Recently i've been reading Philip of Spain by Henry Kamen (what do you guys think of the book, btw?) and it says that the Duke of Alba's governorship of the Netherlands was disastrous and public opinion in Europe was outraged by his repression, which in turn made Spain isolated. It also says...

Ah, makes sense. :o I wonder if there is a basemap for the Intendences in colonial South America?

Hm, indeed, there's a white outline on the Paraná, i should've noticed that it is a puppet state. I meant the federation of the Paraná then. It seems a bit too subdivided on Southern Brazil, although like i said, with your POD most of the cities on the region would be butterflied away, so...
  11. Map Thread XI

Your Southern Brazil british dominion seems a little overdivided, on areas that are not exactly overpopulated... Although with a napoleonic POD a lot of cities would be butterflied away. So, what happened? All the population that would otherwise go to Australia went to the South, and the british...
  12. If Miguel da Paz survives would Brazil speak Castilian?

Before 1530 there were no permanent settlements, just the occasional expeditions here and there to extract brazilwood.

Well, this makes sense. So Madagascar is just part of puppet France and it wouldn't require a sealion there. ...D'oh. Ditto for the above. For some reason i thought ITTL the british had got Madagascar before the war and the germans were invading it.
  14. Map Thread XI

Nobody noticed that this Germany did a Sealion... On Madagascar. Edit: And that apparently Japan is invading the Aleutian islands.

I may be overreading on this, but i guess his POD is Dutch Brazil surviving. Dutch Brazil had a jewish community (in fact they built the first synagogue on the Americas and after the portuguese got the Northeast back they went to New Amsterdam, A.K.A. New York) that i guess became important on...

V1's arrows look a bit fascisty to me, dunno why. I like how the arrowheads on V2 form a cross of Malta, and it makes me think of a more traditionalist EU putting emphasis on a "shared christian tradition" or something like that, maybe it's the flag of an EU more influenced by the Paneuropa...

    Ah well, okay then.
  18. Map Thread XI

You don't say. :p I meant if it's part of a TL on this site or something. Like, huh, a TL thread in Before 1900.
  19. AHC/WI: France, cradle of fascism

I suppose a french fascism would be an *Integralism of sorts, or a similar movement that draws heavily from catholicism. We had maurassism while Mussolini was still a socialist, and it seems pretty "fascist before fascism was a thing" to me, with Mauras advocating a "national anti-semitism"...

Quite interesting, what TL is this from?
