  1. In the Shade of the Baobabs

Thanks for the info on the toubou and the Garamante. I've acknowledged within the TL that African cattle are spread throughout the continent when the TL is taking place.
  2. WI/PC Australia with a 300 million population.

I don't think it's possible to have such a large population in Australia. It simply doesn't have the carrying capacity. You could increase its population by importing arid region crops to maximize use of the limited water available. Millet and sorghum should be the principle crops instead of...
  3. AHC: Have another major civilization rise up in Eurasia

I'd really like to see a Central Asia civilization somewhere around the eastern side of the Caspian Sea.
  4. WI: Africans had never been brought to colonial America as slaves?

I think the growth of European colonies in the Americas would be much slower, possibly leading to a higher Native American population. The population and general development of West Africa and the Congo Basin are much higher than OTL. I can see long-term white indentured servitude...
  5. WI: Africans had never been brought to colonial America as slaves?

If the Native Americans are being taken and enslaved at the rate Africans were, that's going to lead to massive societal disruptions and the ambivalence that the natives at time felt toward the Europeans will be replaced with pure enmity. There won't be any convincing that there can be peace...
  6. WI: Africans had never been brought to colonial America as slaves?

Outside of the Mesoamerica region, I don't think the natives have the numbers. Enslaving them would long term either lead to frequent costly wars between them and the colonies or the native population being burned through at a horrific rate.
  7. Wolves of the Steppe: A Gothic History of the World (Reboot)

I like this timeline but leave some time between when you update. Give people some time to read the timeline and comment, like a few days. Right now it's like drinking from a fire hose.
  8. Ask Me About Ancient Egypt

I thought the Egyptian royalty practiced incest because Egyptian inheritance was matrilineal but the pharaoh had to be male, necessitating the marriage of their sisters. I don't know why the Egyptians didn't just switch to patrilineal inheritance.
  9. WI: African china

Having an earlier large-scale Trans-Saharan trade might do that. Alternately, if you could have Songhai survive against the Moroccan invasion then they might be able to survive for a longer time. The effects would be the spread of their culture and script that might in turn stimulate other...
  10. WI : Desperate Quest for a new Home (New Byzantine Homeland / Byzantine New World)

If they sail south they'll end up in Egypt and I don't see how that helps them. Maybe they can try to retake Egypt? If they head West, maybe the Atlas Mountains or Iberia?
  11. In the Shade of the Baobabs

Rewriting Thanks for the support you guys have shown. I think I may rewrite and alternately expand, condense, and rearrange parts of the timeline based on what I've learned here and further research.
  12. Ask Me About Ancient Egypt

How did Christianity spread in Egypt given the popularity of the native religion and were there any attempts to meld Jesus and Yahweh into the Egyptian pantheon? And did any Egyptians make the connection between "Yahweh" and the God that Jews claimed delivered them from Egypt? And what are...
  13. More Muslim Asia

If you butterfly Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zoroastraniasm, then you butterfly Islam. As for Islam spreading into the Far East, I don't see China converting except through invasion and I don't think the armies of Islam are strong enough to defeat the Chinese.
  14. Could Europe have become the dominant continent without gunpowder?

I don't think so. It was gunpowder and everything that came with it that allowed Europeans to inflict massive casualties on other peoples without suffering similar losses. You take away guns, then the whole gun-slave cycle of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade is dead in the water, so the New...
