With the butterflies of a very short Japanese-Sino War who knows what will happen in China. The Communists may not take power, China may be in a civil war for a lot longer, China may balkanize, we don't know. And even if Mao takes power will he be able or willing to attack a Japanese empire...

French Indo-China does have some land based oil wells. They have a lot more oil in the ocean, but the Japanese can start getting some oil in the 1940's. And once they have the oil flowing they can quickly go from a regional great power to a super power. Just because the Japanese wouldn't...

Once they start using the resources in Indo-China, Manchuria, Northern China and the South China Sea they would have pretty much everything they need. Not in as great a quantity as the USSR or the US, but they would have it. Agreed. This is the best way for a Japanese super power.

It Normandy used attrition, but it also spread the Germans out over several hundred kilometers. By putting them in Denmark, the Germans are nice and compact, which favours the defenders. Also there are canals that are a lot worse than bocage. And with being so close to Germany the Luftwaffe...
