  1. AHC: A more competent U.S. Armed Forces

Yep, the USA can kick ass and take names in any true conventional war (even now), but as Vietnam and Iraq have shown, we can struggle with continued insurgencies (though we are getting better).
  2. AHC: A more competent U.S. Armed Forces

The simplest way to do this would be to never have the USSR fall (which would require a massive POD in and of itself). Thus, no cutbacks in the 1990s, probably no ridiculous invasion of Iraq in 2003, etc. We also likely keep some of the heavier units that we've gotten rid of in recent years as...
  3. Plausibility Check: Longer Cold War

What if Gorbachev never rises to power? Would the USSR have a chance at surviving if a hardliner was installed, instead? I would tend to doubt it.
  4. Hitler won't declare war after Pearl Harbor

One thing that I think may be possible is that without a German DOW on the USA, while we still end up declaring war on Germany, we may steer the course of a Japan-first approach, which may lead to a conclusion of the Pacific Theater quicker or may even lead to the invasion of Japan, which would...
  5. White American Theocracy

I don't see any plausible timeline with a POD after the Civil War (barring a nuclear war and its aftermath, at least).
  6. "Non-historical PODs"?

A fly lands on Napoleon's shoulder when he is two years old. The world changes!!! Napoleon rampages Moscow and doesn't stop until he has conquered Vladivostok!
  7. Atomic War in the 80s

I can't imagine that industrial centers like Detroit and Pittsburgh wouldn't have been hit. Also, I would tend to think major ports like Savannah and Houston would get hit (they do have Charleston getting hit, at least). And, as someone stated before, why not San Diego? Also, not "everyone"...
  8. King Bill: The Third Term of William Jefferson Clinton

I'm assuming that there was a POD that made it so that the 22nd Amendment was never passed? This looks interesting, though.
  9. Atomic War in the 80s

I've talked with some guys who used to be involved with nuclear weapons targeting back in the 1980s. They always told me that I'd be shocked of the places that we had targeted and would be hit in the event of a nuclear war. Maybe he was lying to me, but whatever.
  10. Best Western Performance in WW2

Maybe have France actually respond the the German reoccupation of the Rhineland in 1936? If they do and push the German brigades out of the Rhineland (which they easily could have), Word War II, as we know it, may never have happend.
  11. AHC: Successful Operation Market Garden

How can Operation Market Garden be made to be a success? Can the Western Allies reach Berlin by Christmas if it is a success? Go! :)
  12. Atomic War in the 80s

A couple things... The most surprising thing about a thermonuclear war is how many people would survive (at least initially). Things will be hell afterwards for awhile, though, so the ones who live might be the unfortunate. Secondly, I'm sure we'd all be surprised at the places targeted...
  13. January 7, 1992 nuclear war

We'd need a Fail Safe scenario where perhaps the Russians order one of their bombers to drop a bomb on one of their cities (Stalingrad, Moscow, or Leningrad, probably).
  14. Challenge: Most Chaotic 1970's Possible

1973: - Soviet/East German troops storm the Fulda Gap. - NATO, facing the likelihood of defeat, unleashes tactical nukes on the advancing armored columns. - Soviets respond with more nukes. - An American nuke hits a civilian target, and the USSR responds by nuking London. - All hell breaks...
  15. AHC: Building the Hong Kong Defense Force

The Defense Force would need a modern air force capable of achieving air superiority. Lots of SAMs and AA guns, of course. Frankly, though, unless Hong Kong has nukes, the Chinese are going to be able to take the city without too much difficulty if they really want it. By the way, a timeline...
  16. AHC: Make West Virginia an Independent Nation

Good discussion so far. BTW, I know I said after the Civil War in the OP, but really, anytime is perfectly fine, even if it is before the USA's founding.
  17. AHC: Make West Virginia an Independent Nation

Is it possible for WV to be independent after the Civil War?
  18. A Split Electorate: 2012

I don't want to nitpick, but she never actually said that. This is what she actually said in the Gibson interview when asked about what she thought of Russia: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." That is all...
