Yellowstone. After the defeat of the Union in the Civil War, the *Democratic party was ascendant, and they tried to limit the number of Western states, because they tended to vote for the various Republican party descendants. That's why there's that weird Nebraska and others. The British "won"...

Yeah, I'm running into this problem where my computer is too slow, and when using inkscape, it will freeze if there are too many nodes, so I'm trying to juggle several different svg files to spread the load out, and it's not quite working as I'd hoped.

Armistice line of 1893. Slight Confederate gains. Almost. The light butternut land was territory claimed by the Confederates in 1906, and the borders are funny due to the fact that end of the *Civil War was very indecisive (it lasted until 1867...) and there were two short wars in 1873 and 1893...

Mars was mostly settled by Chinese, Japanese and South East Asians. There were also significant Anglosphere and Arab settlements, (The Somali thing is a quirk, they happened to establish themselves in a good place and grew a lot) and English is used as the literate language because it is...

It was the dream of an era. To turn the once dead world back to life with the aid of mankind. And it began to work. Comets were hurled, and great machines belched forth gases, the atmosphere thickened, and engineered life roared across the red landscape, turning it a dull green. Water flowed...
  10. Lands of Red and Gold

Both Old Frisian and Old English are descended from Anglo-Frisian, and are very similar, but not quite the same. Certainly, there was probably more of a continuum between the two, and they were likely mutually intelligible, but Old English was not descended from Old Frisian.

I was about to say "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" and try to make a map about that, but research indicates that it would just be too damn depressing.
  12. Look to the West -- Thread II

Reading histories of South America is always pretty crazy for me with the disconnect between modern populations and the nearly Europeanless landscape from before almost the 1920s! It's not as bad with North America, as I'm more used to it, but I always forget that Spanish control in New mexico...

That bike fall was an important moment in *history! It's repercussions can still be felt today! Also I like maps. ;) But, no, nice update! I get the sense that there's going to be sort of a UPSA/Socialist versus ENA thing that's going to go on, with lots more about the whole north/south...

...maybe? It certainly looks my stuff, I lost a lot of files in the computer switch. I mean this is really cool, just odd. Where did you find that?
  15. Map Thread IX

This is a really cool map, and I'm glad you liked something I made, but I have no recollection of the base map. This is a rather odd experience.
  16. Lands of Ice and Mice: An Alternate History of the Thule

Just a map I made for this TL, showing distribution of the main trio of Thule plants.

Will write more soon... promise. In mean time have map: Three notes: Cork is the largest remaining city in the British isles (however Belfast is very close and will surpass it soon) -P.C.B.I is the Provisional Council of the British Isles -The Zones have M.A.P. (Military assistance...

Thande, do you know when you're going to give the next pots on the Ottomans? It hasn't changed much on the maps, and it's a cool part of the world.
  19. Under the Aegis of the White Wyrm

@jkarr: Britain has a umber of reasons to decolonize. Firstly, the colonies are costly. Almost none besides (off the top of my head) India, Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt (I think, and if it was it was very slight), and South Africa made any money. The rest were all giant sucks of government money...
  20. Look to the West -- Thread II

Agreed. Honestly Thande, this TL has made me much more aware of the status of Man and the Channel islands (damn the French! They took them!).
