  1. The Roman Washing Machine?

Or a huge plague rips through the world; and the no. of slaves goes down dramatically. From plagues; and fear of overly large no.s of slaves iin comparison to citizens.
  2. Fascist but not Nazi Germany during the 20th Century

While that 'blogger' clearly has issues; it is true Sweden had eugenics in force right up till the 60's.
  3. The Best Case for Germany in 1918

Surely the resources from Russia will be shortlived? If the Duma/SR's retain control the war will continue; and if the Bolsheviks still seize power the entire is going to be engulfed in civil war.
  4. Kursk Launched on Time

Maybe with Russian heavy losses, following D-day Hitler tries to hold out for Soviet collapse and doesn't commit enough troops against the allies. He realises too late and the Soviet advance catches up all at once. War ends around the same time but eastern europe/east germany is more intact...
  5. No Apollo-1 disaster

There is another disaster at some junction much more crucial in the project. The later on; the more public and catastrophic.
  6. Stanislav Petrov pushes the button

Well the US and the USSR have nuked each other out of oblivion; but would the USSR have hit all NATO or vice-versa? Either way Im assuming the rest of the world picks up the pieces; and China, S.America and Australia result as world 'leaders'. I think it might be possible to see a complete...
  7. Communist Czar

Cambodia? All you need is a monarch lazy and disinterested enough and a communist with anything to gain.
  8. How does Nazi Germany look by 1953

Germany/Italy controls all of europe. UK/Scandanavia/Romania etc have varying degrees of independence but no armies. In the ME, N.Africa and Turkey the regions are in near constant revolt and full scale defeat is only prevented by chemical warfare and air superiority. In the former USSR germans...
  9. No or less repeated placenames in America

It wouldn't make a difference; I don't think americans realise what a large percentage of names come straight from tiny towns or villages in England. There are at least 4 largish towns in america named after the village I live in now and up till 1900's the population struggled to reach 400.
  10. New British Empire

Russia; Brazil; India; China; USA all destroyed in nuclear war. Other than that; Britains pop. simply isn't big enough to be a superpower in this day and age.
  11. w/out oil, would the US give a damn?

The ME would just be equivelant to Central Asia. Poverty and low-key dictatorships/failed democracies but fairly stable with a disinterested stance by most important nations on the area. A expanded Israel with poor and unheard of smallish states dotted around.
  12. Prohibition never repealed + Great Depression =Gangster Nation?

Ahh, but are the crooks far-sighted enough to realise that? If two large gangs start a war it might eliminate the remaining government in the process. My guess is total but unofficial mob and corporation rule until such point as one decides to be dictator and destorys
  13. nazi research organized

While they couldn't have won they could have put the war off for a bit. My guess is a even bloodier post-war europe, and a much weaker Soviet Union.
  14. A little horse

How much more lethal would the plains Indians be? With the horse from the start would the centuries of tribe on tribe warfare could have intensified with the wider scope of range and speed. A Indian Genghis Khan anyone?
  15. Would anarchy work?

If it happens somewhere remote enough like Iceland or New Zealand I could see it lasting a while. Would their be NGOs though? With NGOs think would be much more simpler.
  16. AH Challenge: Homelands for *other* persecuted faiths

Could it backfire massively on the Isrealis though? A secure border but the new nation gets massive backing from USA and the christian world. Coptic Sinai goes through a massive infrastructure development while US enthusiasm too Isreal cools. A less-equipped Isreal fighting a drawn out war...
  17. India and Pakistan: Nuclear war!

If India won and the rest could only look on in horror, how long would an Indian state last? I mean with several large cities obliterated and radiation a massive problem, would it take much for everyone to start pointing fingers? IIRC India found in necessary to have Pakistan as a constant...
  18. WI: Esperanto universally learnt

After the end of WW2, the UN includes the specific support for Esparanto as a universal language n their charter. Most western powers introduce Esperanto as part of the secondary school curriculm and the colonial nations have it introduced in limited degrees. Does esparanto help foreign...
  19. A perfect world

Well not kill as in genocide, but a world where the rich have no problem leaving the poor to stay that way. Kinda of like -now. We've had the tech to kill everyone since the 1940's but I think we've had the tech to make poverty end since at the turn of the 20th century. Groups of people as...
  20. AH Challenge: War over the poles

With an earliest POD of 1920, create a situation were a fairly large scale war is held in and over the North Pole or Antartica. Bonus points: If special tanks or other vehicles are used. Double Bonus points: If the war is on both Antartica and the North Pole at the same time.
