  1. Wrong Type of Kentucky, Wrong Type of France: A TL

Interesting. I would like to point out that the term "photography" is not butterflied away by your PoD, as it entered the English language in the year 1839, if that's what "photoscopy" refers to. Also, that Ethiopia border! Ack! Is that Austrian Patagonia? By the way, what is...
  2. Wrong Type of Kentucky, Wrong Type of France: A TL

Well, not necessarily you in specific, but it's kind of a common trope in pre-1900 anything to wank Japan, I've seen. It did, and it controlled a good portion of the Zanzibar Coast until 1861, IIRC. I don't think the Persian colony would be so huge, but it's still interesting nonetheless...
  3. Wrong Type of Kentucky, Wrong Type of France: A TL

Classical PP timeline: the United States is balkanized into a bunch of neon-/bright-colored independent states, with at least one being some variety of *socialism. I already know what post-1900 will look like. :D At least TTL doesn't look like it's shaping up to be a Japan wank. Also, why...
  4. Poll ,Best Colonial Empire .

Best colonial empire? Definitely Poland. :p
  5. Map Thread XIII

What empty said, 2013 is the point of convergence. Players work backwards, to make an ATL that converges to make the current year of OTL (at the time, that year was 2013). It's almost -700 years running, right now.

  7. WI: Hawaii Remains Independent

Oh, I missed the "1890's" part of the OP. :o In that case, Hawaii is practically already American, no way to avoid it. If we have an earlier PoD, such as the Laplace Affair, Hawaii could easily become French.
  8. WI: Hawaii Remains Independent

If the British or Americans don't take it, then I'd say Germany would eventually snatch it; if THIS isn't so, the Japanese would surely gobble it up given the opportunity.
  9. Who else could fill up the space of Russia's land?

Well, didn't the Spanish at one point claim as far north as Valdez in Alaska? If you just knock the Russians out of colonizing America (or getting to the Chukchi Peninsula), what would stop the Spanish from making claims on Far Eastern Siberia?

  11. Could Japan ever get colonies in Africa?

I wonder if Italy and Japan were to go to war, the Japanese would be inclined to snatch Italian Somaliland (or at least part of it) for themselves purely out of prestige. Also yes, the Cossack colony is... quite strange. :p
  12. Could Japan ever get colonies in Africa?

With a PoD no earlier than the Perry Expedition, could Japan ever realistically acquire some land in the Scramble for Africa? Something to the extent of Britain, France, or even Germany or Italy would be highly unlikely, but could the Japanese pull something off like what the Cossacks attempted...
  13. Bizarre moments in history .

This is pretty bizarre, though the story varies among sources. Some say this event took place is Word War I, while others claim that an Italian soldier joined Liechtenstein (though this could be legend, since I couldn't 100% verify this as true):
  14. Linguistic Map Thread

Looks good, but you might want to fix Navajo, since on this map it appears to be colored as an Algic language. It's actually a Na-Dene language, so it should be colored light green like the languages in the Yukon/Northern BC area.

  16. Common and Overdone before 1900 What Ifs?

    1) Byzantine Empire survives 2) Byzantine Empire survives 3) Byzantine Empire survives Also, Japan wanks. Japan wanks everywhere!
  17. Map Thread XIII

This looks like some sort of alt First Schleswig War where Sweden joined on the side of Prussia but got its ass kicked (by Denmark, so there aren't sweeping annexations, just portions of Scania taken), making Norway secede from the union.
  18. Photos from Alternate Worlds

As seen in my test thread, a caption from the game Silent Reverse Mapgame ~Historiae mutetur!~. After the fall of the Navajo puppet state of Geronimo in August of this year, a Comanche cavalry leader from the First Peoples Confederation and a French sergeant from Louisiana collaborate in an...
  19. Why the need for colonies?

Possible in the case of the Incas had they not gone through a destructive civil war that put the final nail in the coffin for their empire's survival. Also it would help if the English have a bigger interest in South America, they could use the Incas as a buffer to Spanish domination. For other...
