    April 1942 Alternate Indian Ocean

There is a fair chance that the Japanese pilots will be rescued. But it will lead to a stay in a PoW camp, vice a return to duties.

DWBI: Senator John F Kennedy Wins 1960 election?

But as President, he'd have a harder time hiding it from the press. The White House staff would have outed him, unlike the staff at his mansion.

DWBI: Senator John F Kennedy Wins 1960 election?

If he still had the affair with MM, no, he doesn't win a 2nd term. They had Morals in the early Sixties, unlike the Nineties when the press helped cover up President Hart's affair(s). If he doesn't have the affair, then he'd probably win re-election, given the economy. And we'd lose a great...

    No F - 35

Related to #2: the aircraft was a maintenance hog. In a typical air wing, it was less than a quarter of the aircraft, but more than half of the maintenance load. Maintenance officers and supply officers hated the Tomcats.

As cool as Averof is, I wouldn't want to put it where it would have to fight modern warfare. It's a good rear area convoy escort, but no longer a front line vessel.

    Voices of Doomsday

    1. The Mafia (and other groups) will be continuing their business: smuggling and the black market at a minimum. Where there is a demand, there will be a supplier. 2. Yes, the military will shoot them. This won't stop it from happening, it will just make it more costly. The stupid and unlucky...

    Voices of Doomsday

I forgot about Northrop in L.A. I grew up in Los Angeles, and dear old Dad worked aerospace. I just listed all the companies I remembered him working for. For replacement aircraft, I know that Lockheed can build "heavy iron" for large bombers (but given how long it's taking to replace the...

San Diego took a nuclear strike in this timeline, so I don't think you're getting much aircraft production their in the short term. Likewise Seattle. But there are plenty of aerospace plants in Los Angeles (Lockheed, Hughes, Douglas, North American, Rockwell all had factories scattered around...

    Voices of Doomsday

With the lack of command and control, it would not surprise me if a set of Soviet sub-launched missiles hit NYC and DC again. And again. Living anywhere in the CEP of any major city would be a bad insurance risk for the next year.

Ron Paul Runs a Third Party Candidacy in 2008 and/or 2012

The Republicans would blame him for their loss the way they blamed Ross Perot in 1992 and Democrats blamed Ralph Nader in 2000.

WI the movie Avatar ended with the Colonel's infamous fan-made monologue?

I'd like to say that it's a great speech, but it doesn't belong in the movie Avatar. It would make a great "fuck you, you arrogant elitist alien" speech in a very different movie.

    George W. Bush Resigns

I don't see President GW Bush resigning for anything short of "caught in bed with a live boy or a dead girl" or a mentally impairing health problem. I don't think he'd resign for a heart attack, but would for a stroke.

    Voices of Doomsday

If Gene Rodenberry lives, then there's a good chance for Star Trek to happen. But flying butterflies pretty much guarantees different actors playing at least some of the parts. (I would be interested in speculation as to who gets cast, but have limited knowledge of actors of the time period...

    Anti-Personnel Depth Charge Guns?

A sonar loud enough to injure a submarine crew would injure the crew of the destroyer worse. No, Navy sonars aren't that loud. But they are loud enough to severely injure divers, and animals with sensitive hearing like whales and dolphins.

    Anti-Personnel Depth Charge Guns?

USN ships had high explosive/no fragment grenades on board. Of course, frigates, destroyers and cruisers could always just turn on the sonar for a similar effect.

IIRC, in this timeline LBJ cancelled the 1964 elections. Which would lead to his impeachment, removal from office, and prison time. On a related note, is this timeline over? It's a great set of stories, but if it's done then I can remove it from my bookmarks.

WI: War Hero Richard Milhous Nixon

I'm somewhat confused, why is a American officer at El Alamein? I'm sure there were some observers and liaisons, but Nixon in 1942 would be rather junior for that work. And going from 2nd El Alamein to Operation Torch at the other end of the desert seems even more unlikely.
