  1. Could the HRE have absorbed Hungary and Poland?

Well, other Polish duchies during period of feudal fragmentation might gravitate towards HRE just like Silesian Piasts did in 13th-14th centuries. Maybe if Henry the Pious living longer could keep title of high duke of Poland, and pass it to his descendants - eventually leading to kingdom of...
  2. Clash of the Best Historical Armies

What I meant was that while PLC utilised western style infantry (German/Scottish mercs) and cavalry (rajtaria) it was used mostly against European opponents, not on the 'Wild Fields'. Of course, majority of PLCs army was quite different. Post Bathory Polish-Hungarian infantry didn't bother with...
  3. Clash of the Best Historical Armies

It's BS to compare 'gun' to matchlock arquebus, I'm sorry. Reason why they replaced bows was development of super-heavy cavalry, and in turn pikemen. As others mentioned - musketeers were support for them, not core of the army - this is not 18th century we are talking about. 16th century Poland...
  4. Clash of the Best Historical Armies

16th century firearms were rubbish. They were highly inaccurate, had loong reload times, and their range wasn't so great. They were only truly useful during that period when firing concentrated salvos at tightly packed pikemen formations. Against scattered, fast moving Mongol cavalry they would...
  5. A Different 1939

I'm not an expert, but perhaps theoretically Poles could hold on Romanian Bridgehead long enough if French launch an offensive quickly. Maybe French boldness and successes, as opposed to OTL, would make Stalin hesitate on September 17th - allowing Poles to retreat to that area and hold it till...
  6. A Different 1939

Well, they had way better equipment, Maginot line, naval superiority, were attacked from one side only not almost four like in case of Poland, yet they resisted for only two weeks more than Poles (who commonly are thought to be 'most decisively defeated nation of ww2').
  7. A Different 1939

German victory during 'Fall of France' was way more decisive, given that Anglo-French forces were theoretically stronger.
  8. Map Thread IX

Slightly wanked 13th century Poland from my AAR. I've used BAM basemap, with CK2 province division (fixed most borders using Euroatlas though), and textured whole thing in photoshop.

  10. Crusader Kings II - Paradox Entertainement (02/12)

Play as an Irish earl. You'll start at small scale, with one country only so it should be easy for a first game to manage. Plus, Ireland is quite disunited, giving you opportunity to become duke, and eventually unite island into a kingdom, without risk of being stomped by a powerful neighbour.
  11. Map Series Thread

Map series from my CK AAR (couple of first ones are OTL):
  12. Crusader Kings II - Paradox Entertainement (02/12)

That's because they're using provinces from CK1 in most of the map, and from what I saw only France, England, Scandinavia, Poland and Bohemia was reworked when it comes to province borders. They're using realistic, google-earth like projection so 'province borders are abstract because of...
  13. Victoria II

ledger->province tab - you can sort provinces by average literacy.
  14. Victoria II

Yeah - usually you would want to encourage clergy in your most populous states, to get to countrywide 2% clergy research bonus as soon as possible.
  15. Europa Universalis III

Magna Mundi of course - especially for AH geeks, since it's loaded with realistic, non-deterministic mechanics leading to plausible outcomes. Other mods do little to change crazy, random, ASB-ness of vanilla EU3.
  16. Map Thread IX

Yeah update is coming. Overall, apart of some local oddities like sheikdoms in Ireland, world looks fairly plausible. This may change with arrival of Mongols though. Thanks.:)
  17. Map Thread IX

Latest map from my CK AAR: Good work - looks clean and smooth (what font is that?).
  18. Victoria II

    Germanophilia=boring :p
  19. Victoria II

Or maybe, for something more interesting and non-cliche - create Old Prussian (non German) Prussia in the Baltic region. Also - Piast borders in the West for Poland would be cool (on Oder river).
  20. Victoria II

It looks actually pretty good. Also - great to see Poland there.
