  1. Map Thread XIV

This is a map of a scenario in which after its discovery in the early 1600s, the Dutch explore and settle Australia instead of generally ignoring it. Other European powers soon follow, trying to get their own part of Australia. Six colonies are successfully established: New Holland: The first...
  2. MotF 137: Substitute Scramble

This is a map of a scenario in which after its dscovery in the early 1600s, the Dutch explore and settle Australia instead of generally ignoring it. Other European powers soon follow, trying to get their own part of Australia. Six colonies are successfully established: New Holland: The first...
  3. DBWI: Japan Opens Up Later

Japan would be left behind in technology- they would likely to today be a poorly-developed country. That is, if they even are a country ITTL- such a weak position would leave them easy to be conquered by China or a European colonizer. Also, if they are isolated for so long, it would leave the...
  4. Would Washington's Reputation Be Better Or Worse If He Hadn't Been President?

He would probably still be well known in America as the commander in chief of the Continental Army, or, to the average person, the leader of American forces in the Revolutionary War. He would be less of an iconic figure of America, but still seen as an important founding father. His reputation...
  5. AHC, make the Netherlands a major power for longer.

I think that if they had held on to Belgium it would have made the Netherlands a more important power. They would have had access to Belgium's coalfields, giving it a better industrial economical basis. Perhaps if the Netherlands had acquired the Austrian Netherlands (future Belgium) in the...
  6. WI: Clement Attlee Establishes *Special Relationship* with USSR?

European mainstream leftist parties were indeed anti-Soviet. But, if we might consider an earlier POD, perhaps the Soviet Union could be more democratic and less totalitarian, could this give it a better standing with Western European socialists? How early of a POD would be needed for that? A...
  7. AHC: Air Conditioning Less Popular

The Northern migration to Southern states in the US would be significantly decreased. This means that the Northeast would have a higher population and more electoral importance. Florida would not be the 3rd largest state and New York might still be number one. The South would likely be somewhat...
  8. Map Thread XIV

This is my first time MotF entry. Took me quite a while to do. This is the second map I've posted on the forum, after this one. I wouldn't mind some feedback about how to make my maps and scenarios better.
  9. Map of the Fortnight: Main Discussion Thread

Added my entry. I'm fairly new to the forum and this is my first time entering the MOTF.:)
  10. MotF 135: Island Paradise

Konungsríkið Eyjar, The Kingdom of the Isles, known in English simply as Eyar, traces its origins to the Vikings, who came from Scandinavia to the isles in the early medieval era. The Viking chieftains were sometimes vassals of kings in Scandinavia, and sometimes of kings in Britain, but when...
  11. DBWI: Save the Czech language

If Silesia had not become German then Czech would not be surrounded by German. A stronger Poland is probably the best POD here. After Silesia was Germanized it was inevitable that the same would come to Bohemia, being part of the HRE and all.
  12. Map Thread XIII

This is my first inkscape-basedmap, created with help from Upvoteanthology's tutorial.
  13. What would need to change about the new world for it to dominate the old world?

For the New World to actually be more powerful than the Old would require a change in its size and shape. The old world is much larger and has more fertile river valleys which means it will inherently have a greater population. If the Americas had the large range of native domesticable plants...
  14. DBWI: Could the Kushan have survived if they converted to Islam?

They probably would have survived longer, but expansion west seems unlikely- the Caliphate was quite powerful at that time. Expansion to the east is more probable. The greatest affect this would have would be a much earlier conversion of India to Islam, or at least West and Central India.
  15. WI No "Birth of a Nation"

Without The Birth of a Nation, the second Ku Klux Klan would most likely be much less influential, if it would exist at all. Also, the movie was influential in creating modern film techniques, so this could have significant effects on film history.
  16. Look to the West: Thread III, Volume IV (Tottenham Nil)!

All very good, it looks like Norden will gain the remains of Sweden but lose Billungia- makes more sense for them certainly.
  17. Look to the West: Thread III, Volume IV (Tottenham Nil)!

Yet another very good update. Can't wait to see who was picked. Unless things have changed since 1815, yes. I suppose that either that area is now part of Algonkia province, leaving a rather small Ontario, or it is part of Ontario province, meaning a break from the straight-line confederal...
  18. Redraw the world map with half as many countries

My take on it: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan do not leave the USSR (203) Abkhazia and South Ossetia are annexed to Russia (201) India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Maldives united into the South Asian Federation (196) Upon leaving the Soviet Union, Tajikistan, Turkestan...
  19. Look to the West: Thread III, Volume IV (Tottenham Nil)!

I finally caught up to LttW, the timeline that introduced me to ah.com. Good update, awesome map.
  20. Map Thread XII

How did Finland become part of the USSR? Also, what's the current year?
