World Opinion of the Atomic Bombing if Used on Germany

OTOH, the Nazis didn't (at least to my knowledge) engage in biological or chemical warfare against civilian populations like the Japanese did. (They ran experiments, but weren't out using cholera, anthrax, and plague infested fleas on civilian population centers.)

World Opinion of the Atomic Bombing if Used on Germany

The anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hirsoshima and Nagasaki has just passed, and, as always, there was a slew of opinions on whether tjey were justified. (Please take any discussion of that elsewhere! It's off topic.) In talking with someone earlier today, I wondered what they'd have...

Nazi victory, How much of Siberia could China annex.

China has claimed at least some sovereignty over it simce before Russia existed, and the two have been fighting over it since the early 17th C. Russia's on the ropes - great time to kick 'em. And the US would be far more likey to be sending aid to the Chinese.

    WI: USA won Vietnam

Best possible outcome is to have the US support the Viet Minh in the late 1940s.

AH Challenge: Make "Pencil Neck Geek" a number one hit

The film was largely improvised as I understand it, and Gleason was given a great deal of lee way to ad lib and make additions/suggestions. And he did so very much. Both the diner (choke and puke) scene and having junior along were Gleason improvements, and sumbitch was all his. I'm sure he...

AH Challenge: Make "Pencil Neck Geek" a number one hit

Okay, challenge accepted... Paul McCartney singing "Pencil Neck Geek" - on the soundtrack of Smokey and the Bandit. Instead of "sumbitch", Buford T. Justice's catch phrase is "pencil neck geek". Instead of Jerry Reed, Ed Begley, Jr. plays a geeky version of Cledus "Snowman" Snow, and Justice...

    A fascist "USSR"

One aspect more like Germany will be the high likelyhood of a Jewish genocide. A fascist Russia could very easily develop it's own version of the Dolchstoßlegende. Add in the already nasty history of antisemitic violence and propaganda (lets not forget that The Protocols of Zion is Russian in...

"They're all gone. All of them."

Heh - hadn't even thought of *that* Ulyanov. Were they actually related though? I looked over a couple of the actor's bios again and there wasn't a mention of it if they were related. A bit of am odd omission if they were, but stranger things have been left out of bios.

"They're all gone. All of them."

Either that name is a coincidence or we've got an earlier POD than people seem to suspect and Soviet cinema is going to be rather different!

    A different communist symbol

My understanding is that the source cited for that is an unauthorized bio with some dubious claims as well as outright lies. When Hammer passed, he was in the middle of a libel suit against Weinberg. Do you have a better source than an unauthotized biography known to contain mistruths?

    A different communist symbol

Someone really ought to do a TL where Armand Hammer really was named after the symbol amd really was a communist.

AHC/PC/WI: Swap Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf's later careers...

Powell and Schwarzkopf were roughly at similar spots in 1986 - both were Lt. Generals commanding V Corps and I Corps respectively. So, with a POD no earlier than that, and preferably at least mid-1987 or later... 1) Is it plausable to have Powell go on to be the commander of CentCom and be in...

How would music develop in a world without rock and roll?

Yep. It's found even earlier... http://www.littlewonderrecords.com/LW%20339.mp3 And the best analogy I've seen on the question of the origins of RnR is that the question is rather like the question of exactly when did one get fat. (One song/dessert at a time!) There's also the effect of the...

How would music develop in a world without rock and roll?

Rock music really can't be tied to a single or even several individuals. Removing important figures will only result in minor cosmetic differences. And considering that the term "rock" and the phrase "rock and roll" was already being used in the 30s and 40s*, it's not at all unlikely that some...

WI: George Carlin becomes President in 1988 or 1992

His "voting is meaningless" bit is a classic, and would keep him from winning on the odd weird chance he ever did run.
