  3. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

Overly simplistic - there were a mass of conflicting interests among the Soviet "elite" - most wanted to simply continue as they were. Some could see how to take advantages of the changes that they could see were coming.
  4. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

Just No. Planning may work for capital investment in factories. It does not work well for consumer goods where demand is uncertain. I worked in the Former Soviet Union in the early 90s, and saw a lot of the hangover of the USSR. In 1992 there was 1 foreign owned supermarket in Moscow which...
  5. Dunkirk Disaster and colonies exchanged for withdrawal from France and Netherlands

Given the government itself was not that certain about what was going on OTL, how will the British public "discover" this?
  6. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

No. You can plan for quantity, but quality is another matter, esp for consumable items. The USSR informal markets included people selling dead lightbulbs. Why? So you could take them to work to replace live ones. You then take them home, because you couldn't buy new lightbulbs in the shops. And...
  7. What happens if Rock Island chooses the Christie Route to American armor for WWII?

I see a University Diploma in Military History ;)
  8. What would the British do if German tanks roll into Dunkirk? (no halt order)

Add in the terrain - low lying with lots of small waterways and weak bridges. There's a reason why Dunkirk was held by the Germans until the end of the war.
  9. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

That's what the US Air Force would like you to believe. On clear days they could be very accurate, but when there was cloud cover or defensive smoke screens around factories, their aim was worse than the RAF at night. The aim of firebombing cities was not simply terror, but to destroy by fire...
  10. How important was the Dunkirk evacuation ?

"So our poor old Empire is alone in the world?" "Aye we are - the whole 500 million of us" Edit: Ninja'd
  11. How important was the Dunkirk evacuation ?

Two contemporary cartoons which show 2 sides of British feeling at the time.
  12. Much more aggressive UN peacekeeping missions

Because some countries on the Security Council have veto powers. It would be very very unusual for none of them have more interest in supporting one side or the other in a conflict (who would have to buy their arms from somewhere).
  13. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

Russian mobilisation =/= Russian entry into the war - see earlier posts about when Austria and Russia declared war, and previous Austrian/Russian standoffs.
  14. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

Declarations of war Austria on Serbia - July 28. This did not guarantee a wider war, as Austria only declared war on Russia on 6 July (after IIRC some German pressure). Germany on Russia, France and Belgium - 1 & 3 August. This is the real start of the war.
  15. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

You're tying yourself in knots here. Germany declared war so that it could invade Belgium.
  16. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

Time-travelling again. In 1914 it probably was an inescapable casus belli.
  17. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

Perhaps a peace treaty that requires the French to hand over its fleet, and restrict its Army to 100,000 men? ;)
  18. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

    Up to a point... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Seas_Fleet
  19. Was Britain Right to Enter WWI?

Not always. The German message to France to hand over its border fortresses wasn't really an attempt to save peace, it was to engineer an advantageous position for war. The Austrian ultimatum to Serbia ;). Because they were not in a hurry to start a war. Germany was committed to attacking...
