  1. TL-191: Filling the Gaps

What about other Confederate POV characters? Nathan Bedford Forrest III? How does the first Forrest fair after the war ends and how does that effect his great grandson and his military prowess? Tom Colleton? What was life like for that family that turned Anne, Jacob and Tom into...
  2. TL-191: Filling the Gaps

This is a pretty accurate summation. Bartlett, in the novels, was described as having dirty-blonde hair, and being around 6 foot tall. He had an uncle Jasper who served during the Second Mexican War as a private. Reginald also was a Richmond native, in "Blood and Iron" he even heckled a...
  3. TL-191: Filling the Gaps

I'd like to see your breakdown of Reginald Bartlett. ;)
  4. Effects of a Mexican Victory on the Confederate States

How is Napoleon III and Maxamilian doing in this TL?
  5. 9/11 Never Happens

So, what about that "End of History" that was becoming a bit commonplace between 1999-2001? From what I remember about that era (and granted I was 8-10 at the time). Will our society fall into a bit of a malaise after the lack of a War on Terror and such?
  6. 9/11 Never Happens

Can we expect the 2003 Northeast/Canada Blackout to still happen?
  7. Which Campaign of the American Civil War Could Most Easily Have Been a CS Victory?

Leave that to Hooker. :p There was another scenario posited where Lee does the same, but the battle occurs further west where he buzzsaws McClellan. He doesn't destroy the AotP, but a third of it.
  8. Which Campaign of the American Civil War Could Most Easily Have Been a CS Victory?

In the end it prevented Antietam. It lead to a "Battle of Frederick". Where Lee entrenched in the city.
  9. Which Campaign of the American Civil War Could Most Easily Have Been a CS Victory?

I read a TL where Lee crafts the 191 order as a ruse to goad McClellan into a position in Western Maryland to throw himself at a fortified Lee. Made good reading.
  10. 9/11 Never Happens

So after the 2001-02 recession isn't quite as sharp as OTL, the economy does okay. And as I said, the big kibosh in the Fall of 2008. Though, I think there will be a transition between *Katrina and the collapse.
  11. 9/11 Never Happens

What about the Housing Bubble? Does that pick up after the Dotcoms burst?
  12. 9/11 Never Happens

But in a TV sense, the X-Files wraps up after it's 9th season, possibly get's a sequel series focusing on Doggett/Reyes alongside a second season of The Lone Gunmen.
  13. 9/11 Never Happens

Or, voter apathy and a low turnout gives W. a second term. Katrina happens, and he has an "eh" lackluster presidency just without a war in the Middle East. Then the financial collapse happens. His approval ratings won't get as low at they did in OTL. Perhaps he'll slink down to somewhere...
  14. 9/11 Never Happens

Likely not, that "war hero" appeal against Bush wouldn't swing in this TL. John Edwards as a "Bill Clinton Mk. 2" though...
  15. 9/11 Never Happens

Kind of wonder what it would be like for my generation. Growing up in a Pax Americana 2000s with not much anxiety about terrorism, getting the big kibosh in 2008, just like OTL. Might even make the sting of the financial crisis that much more bitter.
  16. 9/11 Never Happens

Yeah social networks were coming sooner or later.
  17. 9/11 Never Happens

Decapitating Al Queida on August 20th, 1998 in a cruise missile strike would work just as well.
  18. 9/11 Never Happens

There is something I wanted to expand on as well. There was another thread here some time back positing that had 9/11 never happened, we'd be leering into Fight Club territory. The thing is about that era from 1998-2001, it was ALL about the introspection. Sure Fight Club had those pent...
  19. 9/11 Never Happens

That posits another good question. When I was a kid at the Y2K turnover, so basically from 1998-2001, I remember pretty well that there was this sort of "all the big problems are solved" mindset. What with the Cold War being over and everything. Movies like Fight Club, The Matrix...
  20. 9/11 Never Happens

I think so as well. The optimistic 90s vibe could turn to a sort of Fight Club, American Beauty (you get the idea here) "end of history" that never ended in OTL, and it lasts several more years without the attacks. Until the 2008 financial collapse.
