I think it would look better if the reds were all the same - as it is, they're just different enough for it to look wrong. I know the colours are from the original flags, but unless this is a CoA from within the last few decades, I don't think having one shade of red instead of another would...

Very true. It takes a brave officer to go against the advice of his Warrant Officer - and if he does, he'd better have a very good reason - otherwise for 'brave' read 'stupid'!

Purely from a colours point of view, the second is better, as the red/green border is easier to distinguish than the blue/green border.
