Thanks for the help! I did some more fixes--a few incomplete province borders in Brazil, Russia, and China and a fix to the CAR (where the civil war just ended). Can't find any good maps of rebel influence in the DRC (so I left the spillover into the CAR), South Sudan, or Afghanistan/NW Pakistan.

I'm working on an update to the 2014 map for June 2015. So far I've updated Donbass, Syria/Iraq, and Libya. Yemen has to be updated, and there likely have to be changes to CAR/DRC/South Sudan as well.

Germany, compared to, say, France, is densely populated and located on a bonanza of raw materials. That's why a unified Germany was such a shakeup to the European order.
