  1. MoF 02: Voting thread

While all the maps seem to have been on-topic, Sapiento's is the prettiest. Hence my vote goes to him. And whoeer voted for me - thank you :)
  2. Fun for fans of wince-inducingly wrong maps!

Well, there is a No Man's Land separating Russia from the Baltic States - that's good. It's not a sea, the colour is different. However, Lithuania is the smallest of the Baltic States and Poland seems to have annexed everything south of Vilnius - that's bad. :D

Nugax, that's a great idea :) I personally prefer the second map, however the difference between various striped areas is too minuscule in all three.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice the pun :D
  5. MoF 02: Decolonised Africa

I used the world map from an old map series of mine as the basis for how the colonial Africa looked like. I could give some details about the countries and rough outline of history, but I don't really want to write all that down. Enjoy :)

  7. MoF 01: voting thread

A slightly belated congratulation to Sapiento for his victory and Nugax for the second place. Also to everyone else for the many great entries :)

Nugax, because of the story. If this was a generic map challenge, I would have gone for thrashing_mad's entry, but in this case I wanted to vote for something that is most definitely steampunk, and Nugax's map is.

Wait, which conversation was that? The one about making Krall explode with randomness? :D In whichever case, the idea is epic. I probably don't get half the puns, but it's still amazing :) It's a pity I leave town for two weeks, otherwise I would make a map straight away.
  10. Map of the Fortnight: Topic thread

The map is very interesting, both in idea and execution. It's not everyday that you see Prussia/Germany winning a war against France and France still being rather huge afterwards :D

The Baltic peoples were sitting happily in their lands, with only the outermost regions being conquered by the passers-by, until a country was formed at around 1240. Some were also trading amber with the Romans. That's it :D

    Azardin, your map is splendid!

One thing I don't like about your map series is that the Baltic tribes are, apparently, completely overtaken and eliminated by the various others (Germanics and Slavs). Other than that, it's really interesting.

Dynastically united does not equal good relations. IOTL, Grand Duke Vytautas and King Jogaila (Jagiello in Polish) were rarely on good terms, even though the former was formally a vassal of the latter. Vytautas was trying to get crowned as King and to break the dynastic ties between Lithuania...

Agreed. It's an amazing map, even if I would prefer the colour scheme to be more old-fashioned for a better steampunk feel.

Thank you all :) I'm not that happy with the map though - I wanted it to be less of a political map than it turned out, but couldn't think of a good way to do that. But if you like it, that's great :)

My submission for the Clockpunk/Steampunk map contest. I have not thought of a story for this map, I only wanted to have some form of rivalry between clockwork and steam-powered airship designs. And that's what this is - the Italian states are developing clockwork devices, drawing from the works...
  18. MoF 01: Steampunk/Clockpunk

I have not thought of a story for this map, I only wanted to have some form of rivalry between clockwork and steam-powered airship designs. And that's what this is - the Italian states are developing clockwork devices, drawing from the works of Leonardo da Vinci (who was apprenticed to a Swiss...
  19. Map of the Fortnight: Topic thread

As it was my idea that was selected, I should explain. As I was told back at school, "social" geography, as opposed to "physical" and "political", means geography that deals with social issues - wealth, health, etc. So mostly any geography that is not about physical features of the Earth's...

"And if you gaze upon a map, the map gazes also upon you. And if a map is horrendous, you may become horrendous as well." ~ Friedrich Mappe, or so.
