Until Every Drop of Blood Is Paid: A More Radical American Civil War

The United States didn't become a legitimate liberal democracy until 1965 and the passage of the Voting Rights Act. But that doesn't exactly justify an act that is more illiberal like an aristocratic population with a monopoly on power in a region deciding to withdraw from the accountable...

Until Every Drop of Blood Is Paid: A More Radical American Civil War

The legal argument for slavery falls apart on its face when you consider how the South wasn't a functioning democracy at the time. There is no legitimate argument on the part of the South to popular support for secession when in many states the majority of the population is in bondage. This...

Until Every Drop of Blood Is Paid: A More Radical American Civil War

It should be noted that those other cases weren't considered legitimate at the time. The demands of the Hartford Convention were ignored and the Federalists collapsed as a political force. Jackson took the carrot and stick approach to the Nullification Crisis, with congress negotiating a new...

WI : Nixon Vs Johnson in 1968?

The only scenario I can see where Johnson is the nominee would be one where the Vietnam War is going just well enough for Johnson to in turn be re-elected. Say the US and South Vietnam forces get an even earlier tip off of the Tet Offensive and it's just absolutely obliterated then Johnson...

WI: Hillary Clinton is hired by Ronald Reagan

It would be rather too late as by that point Hillary Clinton would have already served a single term as First Lady of Arkansas, where she was often a political headache for being too liberal and feminist and outspoken while married to such an otherwise moderate and reasonable Governor.

WI: President Taft dies during the 1912 Republican Convention?

President Roosevelt's escalating saber rattling at Germany results in the United States entering the war by 1916. I suspect Roosevelt gets re-elected, only for a Democratic tide to turn after 1918.

WI: Reagan vs Carter - 1976

Out of curiosity, I took my spreadsheet of the 1980 election (I have one for every election) and tweaked it to give Reagan a boost in the Mid-Atlantic and then set the popular vote to the IOTL 1976. This was the result: Of course, if you go with the belief that the Gubernatorial election in...

WI: Reagan vs Carter - 1976

Fair. Though I think me giving Mississippi to Reagan was an erroneous choice, as he really didn't do much better than Ford did relative to the national popular vote. So even if Illinois goes the other way here, Carter wins on the strength of the (almost) solid South.

WI: Reagan vs Carter - 1976

Reagan was a little uncooked and undisciplined in 1976, so if he got the nomination I could see the election being not at all dissimiliar to OTL. I mean, Ford already won California, so that's left unchanged. Ford was from the Midwest and seems to have done better there, relative to the...
