  1. Union of the Netherlands and Norway?

The Republic was at it's heart very anti-expansionist. They basically refused to expand to the Southern Netherlands, let alone a place like Norway.
  2. U.S. nukes the Soviets before 1949

I think @ObssesedNuker has a few interesting things to say about the US nuclear capabilities in this period.
  3. No War in Europe: Does Japan still launch the Pacific Campaign?

Alot depends on the situation in Europe. Do the Allies have to concern themselves with a belligerent Germany or Italy? Whatever be, the Allies have alot more pieces on the Asian board. Even if, and again that is a big IF, the French cannot go all in for Indochina and are only able to somewhat...
  4. No War in Europe: Does Japan still launch the Pacific Campaign?

Indochina was not a problem OTL. It is ATL. Firstly because it will not be in Japanese hands when they make their move. Secondly because France will be to reinforce it with land, air and naval units without a European war. OTL yes. This is ATL though. The landings will not be in Thailand as...
  5. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

The keyword is 'future'. In 1940 the next step would be an embargo, in 1941 that step had already been taken. In 1940 there was also an election on the way. Besides that, even in OTL it was only days before Pearl Harbor that the US guaranteed the integrity of the European possessions in Asia. In...
  6. No War in Europe: Does Japan still launch the Pacific Campaign?

@McPherson how is Japan going to invade Malaya without controlling French Indochina first? And if they invade French Indochina first, how in hell are they going to capture a prepared Malaya? Sure, OTL's Malaya command was a shambles of epic proportions. ATL this is most probably far less the...
  7. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

An August 41 scenario is widely different from a August 40 scenario. By that point the conflict between Japan and the West had escalated to such an extent that they couldn't risk NOT attacking the US when going south.
  8. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

I agree with practically everything you have said. Problem is that the British hands are, quite literally, tied east of Suez.
  9. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

Alot will depend on the way it all goes down. If the DEI folds without a fight it will only take the Japanese a week to take over the colony. There will not be any time for the Commonwealth to react. Maybe they could try to take the tip of Sumatra in an attempt to secure the approach to...
  10. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

And yet time and time again the British government refused to guarentee the territorial guarentee of the Dutch East Indies, supported in that by the Royal Navy who realised it could not spare sufficient forces to defend it.
  11. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

I see that several people mention a alliance between the Netherlands and the UK. There was none. Not in Asia anyway. The UK wouldn't/couldn't guarentee the integrity of the Dutch East Indies without a similair guarentee from the United States. Because of this the Dutch government, or rather the...
  12. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

Correct, when concerning the western part of the Dutch East Indies and Malaya. Technically a western pincer could be a possibility but I doubt that the IJN would risk running the British gauntlet that is the South China Sea. An eastern pincer launched from Palau is much more viable though.
  13. What if Japan invaded the dutch east indies along with french indochina in 1940?

If the IJN goes for a coup de main (pretty probable as they must take the DEI as switfly as possible) there is a good chance the Koninklijke Marine, and specifically the submarine arm, will be able to seriously harm the initial invasion force. This is what the RNLN had been build for during the...
  14. AHC: More successful slave rebellions

What is your measurement of success?
  15. WI: The Ottoman’s “Enver-Leontiev Treaty” came to pass?

Cool PoD! I do have to wonder about Bulgaria though. In this scenario they would have to trade acces to the Med for landlocked Macedonia. I can imagine that they put a premium on uniting with their kin but it still sounds like a pretty bad deal.
  16. AHC: European monarch dies in battle after 1718

    His popularity skyrockets.
  17. AHC: European monarch dies in battle after 1718

It is true that Wilhelmina had to be convinced to leave The Hague but it wasn't done by force. They did tell her that she was being moved to the province of Zeeland though. Only after the ship had left the port was the plan changed to move to London. Personally I think that had been the plan all...

  20. Could European Colonies Make A Break For Independence During World War I And/Or WWII?

The Netherlands and Belgium were militarily crushed and their countries were occupied by the Germans. It can't really get worse can it?
