  1. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

I would agree that China isn't very Maoist anymore, but it's still the official ideology, which makes it as mainstream as you can get. Maoism Third Worldism is just Maoism expanded beyond the context of China. It's distinct in that sense, but it's just an extrapolation of pre-existing Maoist...
  2. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

Well sure I suppose, but the whole point of the thread is that it's not mainstream ideologies. Given China makes up a significant part of the entire human race, it seems fairly mainstream.
  3. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

Mao's theory has as a key part a sort of "starving" of the west. The TLDR is that the third world is the fertile ground for revolution because 1st world power makes internal revolutions difficult whilst said power is dependent on third world exploitation. Theoretically a third world that frees...
  4. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

Honestly I'm not sure that said ideology needs its own post. Maoism hits pretty much all of these buttons and is still (officially if not in practice) the governing ideology of China and a guiding principle for many elected Marxist movements around the world.
  5. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

This is very much THE biggest reason. You can't really have a functional planned economy when the very people feeding the applicable data have a greater incentive to fudge numbers to avoid political reprisal. It would be like a business trying to function without any market analytics.
  6. Alternate History Excercise: Create non-Abrahamic, Abrahamic Syncretic, Alternative Abrahamic Religions in Europe!

I was thinking Mary as mother, with the temporal spirit being an earth reference (works well with some Irish myths and continues the symbolism through Yahweh creating life in the earth) whilst being explanatory RE a dualist interpretation. That's in part why I would prefer an earlier POD. By...
  7. Alternate History Excercise: Create non-Abrahamic, Abrahamic Syncretic, Alternative Abrahamic Religions in Europe!

First off, a hybrid. Danicism Inspired by the Irish Book of Invasions, the Danics follow the logical conclusion from said book that there is both the Christian god who is the father, son and holy spirit AND the Goddess Danu who is the mother, daughter and temporal spirit. It's essentially a...
  8. AHC: Chopsticks in Europe

As marcinL said, it's common in Europe and (iirc came about as a class thing (using them upside down is meant to encourage better posture whilst eating). Aka common sense XD. Some people genuinely balance their peas onto the back of the fork at an angle rather than just use the curved nature as...
  9. AHC: Chopsticks in Europe

You can also get extra long cooking chopsticks too, which tend to be metal.
  10. AHC: Chopsticks in Europe

Honestly once forks are a thing, it's sort of difficult to go back to. Whilst some of the points here are valid RE chopsticks and etiquette, chopsticks are just inefficient by comparison. Outside of soup, a fork can be used reliably to eat anything, the only real limitations of the fork being...
  11. Religious stoicism

So I've got some direct experience with this weirdly. I've taken part in the university of Exeter's stoic revival movement which has some excellent discussions surrounding this topic. For me, there are some major issues that it has to deal with, some of which might not be possible to deal with...
  12. Alternate Ideologies

I love the idea! I think Yangism would be more appropriate than Mohism though. It's more atheistic than Mohism which was somewhat closer to Neoplatonism.
  13. What if the Nephites and Lamanites Were Not only Real, but also Survived to the Age of Exploration?

The ASB forum is more appropriate because it is relevant to both non-fandom fictional things or has been suggested as the appropriate place for religious content in the past. To be "secular" we wouldn't really have them at all. We could just call a random group of native Americans Nephites, but...
  14. What if the Nephites and Lamanites Were Not only Real, but also Survived to the Age of Exploration?

A short description that tries to avoid politics: Essentially, The Book of Mormon is meant to have been translated from a language called "reformed Egyptian", which by itself could mean anything. However, Joseph Smith would later go on and buy a papyrus which he claimed to be written in...
  15. What if the Nephites and Lamanites Were Not only Real, but also Survived to the Age of Exploration?

This definitely belongs in the ASB forum given that we are talking about fictional people. To be clear, the historical case against TBOM isn't merely an instance of not having found proof for the existence of said people, but one of the few cases where we can completely prove a negative thanks...
  16. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

This thread is for existing but not well known/understood ideologies.
  17. A Guide, Resource, and Repository of Could-have-been Ideologies for your Alternate History

So this isn't so much an existing ideology as much as it is a description of a trend, but I think Corporate Paternalism could be interesting to discuss. There was a time when people thought company towns may be the future desirable norm.
  18. Eliminate Democracy

Literally speaking this is impossible. The foundations of democracy seem to appear in pretty much every primitive society and continued to emerge sometimes independently throughput the entirety of human history. Say for instance we butterfly most of Eurasian history, we still have to contend...
  19. Neoplatonic Europe

So just to be clear, your not using philosophical rationalism? How did Christians react? There is far less conflict there. But, I also think you are being unfavourable to the Hermeticists. In this case, they literally religiously practiced the precursor to modern chemistry and were open to new...
  20. Neoplatonic Europe

My first question would be in what sense you are using rationalism. On face value it's a bit of an odd claim to suggest the erosion of rationalism when platonic and neo platonic though was perhaps the most ardent defenders of rationalism in opposition to empiricism. My general position on this...
