  1. WI: Earlier Trans-Sahara Camel Caravans

Color me skeptical that they'll have luck transporting many exotic animals across the Sahara.
  2. What other strategic sites could the Romans build a new capital in?

I think that is counting for the Roman equivalent of a siesta.
  3. What other strategic sites could the Romans build a new capital in?

https://romanculture.org/this-week-in-rome-measuring-time-a-time-for-voting-in-ancient-rome/ Just the first hit when I looked it up. I may have had a more authoritative source back in 2012, but I hated citing things. 6 hours is not that crazy, when you consider that most labor was manual labor...
  4. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

You're responding to something other than what is being argued.
  5. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

I've noticed this trend for quite awhile. Mind you, I think the show is still worth watching, and I think the acting is acceptable, and I think the family drama is a generally wortwhile inclusion (even the soap opera-y Baldwin and Stevens families), but when that is the core of the show and...
  6. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

Ah... no. Look at any of the trailers, its all in space or directly related to space. Very little to no personal family drama.
  7. Prevent Jim Crow from ever being implemented and end mainstream White Supremacy in the US by the time the 21st century comes around

I don’t see any way the North could possibly treat defeated rebels the way the Allies treated Nazi Germany.
  8. What other strategic sites could the Romans build a new capital in?

Glad you like it! I do think it needs to be re-done more thoroughly, but I am satisfied with it as a starting point.
  9. What other strategic sites could the Romans build a new capital in?

https://alternatehistoryweeklyupdate.blogspot.com/2012/06/economics-of-roman-suez-canal.html?m=1 It is all back of the envelope math and I really should update it, but even if its off by a lot, the general range is within viability. Damn, its been close enough to a decade...
  10. WI: Earlier Trans-Sahara Camel Caravans

You mean influences on Christianity as practiced in the Empire? Not likely, the connection is too purely economic. There weren’t too many influences on Islam, after all. Now, locally is an entirely different matter.
  11. What other strategic sites could the Romans build a new capital in?

I one proposed that if the Romans built a proper ship-capable Suez canal (not a river boat canal to the Nile) that a capital near our Port Said could make sense.
  12. Prevent Jim Crow from ever being implemented and end mainstream White Supremacy in the US by the time the 21st century comes around

Sure its possible, but it would get struck down harder than the other measures. Also, it would be regarded as a very petty act that would accomplish next to nothing and instigate further resentment in the South.
  13. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

A disingenuous accusation. Tell that to the show writers. We want an AH scifi show. 90% of what we have on the show could have happened in our 1980s, so far. Unrelated, but I had a dream that Gordo found life on the moon, which looked like a moon dust colored baby dragon. And the first...
  14. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

Y’know... we could start shopping our services around if this genre takes off.
  15. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

I did like the meeting discussing deploying weapons to the moon. It was taken seriously, nobody was a caricature, and the lines of agreement/disagreement were fluid. They could do a lot more of that kind of stuff, and its great that, so far, Bradford is a pragmatic guy, not some warmonger.
  16. WI: Earlier Trans-Sahara Camel Caravans

I don't think the ancient world really had racial attitudes as we think of them. There were no shortage of contacts with sub-Saharan Africans in the ancient Mediterranean. There just was a shortage of economically viable connections.
  17. WI: Earlier Trans-Sahara Camel Caravans

Seems that slaves were not a key commodity until much later on in the trade. I don’t think the Romans were particularly desperate for more, so I think it would be a minor part of the trade.
  18. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

I’m okay with the character drama, but it is spread so thin, and we’re going to be asked to care about a whole bunch more stuff that is only tangentially related to the program. Ed losing a son while in space, and then having to confront that regarding his daughter? I’m on board with that. Tracy...
  19. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

Sure, but that doesn’t detract from the problem for me that I still don’t care about half of these characters. S1 should have focused on at least 1 fewer plotlines, maybe 2. I would have cut either the Rosales or the Wilsons, to give either the Pooles or the Russians more screen time. Or both...
  20. WI: Earlier Trans-Sahara Camel Caravans

Here’s a slightly different angle to this question: what effect, if any, would the political stability of North Africa have on the west African states - lets just call it Ghana for ease, even if its not necessarily the kingdom that would be founded - in a scenario in which the camel is...
