Well apart from being the least useful civil parish map they have (but the easiest to update), as said it's probably only been updated because it became apparent that the county boundaries weren't the same anymore. What it actually means is that it took 3 years to show Northampton becoming a...

It's technically not quite accurate to treat 'parish' and 'parish council' as synonymous since some Parishes have a Clerk and meeting but no council due to low population and others have joint parish councils. That particular page pretty much sums things up IMO. Updated 2023 from a 2013...

There's a general trend with Wikipedia maps that the push to create maps isn't necessarily matched by the efforts to update them. The English county parish maps were basically all done in 2010 and haven't been updated since.

Always amusing when the complicated situation can be summed up as 'actually everyone's really clear on what the claim lines and current occupations are, it's the geography that's a mess.'

Yeah that's an impressive feat no doubt about it.

Ah, see the difference here is I just wouldn't bother doing on map labels for cities at that scale- or rather I'd do it as numbered plus external key if it was needed.

If we're going for a new standard, can we nudge the font size up a bit please? I spend a lot of time squinting at tiny font on labels as is and even with that practice some of those are a strain for me. How does the Kubasta look at about size 10?

I think you might have gone a little overboard on the minorities there- there's at least a few where the numbers add up to over 110%

Are you trying to get it from this page? Because I'm not seeing that at my end.

Yeah looking at what you've got there, that's about the best choice you're going to get for that scale- and good job on not falling into the 'England/Wales/Scotland are first level divisions' trap which is literally only a thing since Devolution in the late 90s (and even then not actually the...

I think you've got the modern Ceremonial borders in the UK there? With a couple of missing borders in England by the looks of it. The difficulty is that the County Boroughs were administratively entirely independent from the rest of the counties and they mostly just aren't going to show up on...

Autonomous communities. Spain is a bit wierd in that technically it's a unitary state it's just every part of it is part of an autonomous community, but it's not strictly speaking federal as the powers each Community has are defined according to that Community rather than there being a blanket...

"Power Without Knowledge...": President Haig and the Era of Bad Feelings

Eh, to be honest I was finding the grimdark dull and kinda-difficult to work with. There's honestly more merit in looking at that setting without forcing the faux-Lovecraft elements in IMO.

It's honestly very moving, albeit I'm speaking as someone with no connection to the event myself (hence why we ended up going on the 12th and left the anniversary itself to those it was meaningful to). I'll be honest, my gut instict with that design is it looks horrifically tacky and the museum...

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

Actually did a map of that once. And then I realised that given the eventual demands for democracy, it's likely that at some point the Mayor of the Leonine City becomes the de facto Head of Government.

    The R-QBAM main thread

For what it's worth, I think this entire matter is just a bit ephemeral in the grand scheme of things. We're talking about 'how to show an unrecognised de facto independent state that is no longer de facto independent for the 5 months between losing that independence and completely disbanding.'...

For the record, I have a pretty beefy laptop but the stiched-together VT-BAM of Eurasia is enough to make that struggle with just loading the image over in that thread. Might be alright with just the Raj though.
