These are a couple of maps I made as part of Major Crimsons Shared Worlds succession game “This Sceptred Isle”. We’ve had over two centuries since Harold Hardrada shattered the recently victorious army of Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Snottingham and established the House of Hardrada as the rightful rulers of England.
After many twists and turns the House has fallen upon itself in a brutal multi-generational civil war. Edmund Erikson, of the branch of Rauþer, took a Red Dragon as his banner when he landed in Bristol to overthrow 13 year old Haakon Haraldsson, of the branch of Hwitr, whose banner was a white dragon. As such the conflict is known as the ‘Dragon War’ or Wyrmcrieg.
The conflict is clearly meant to be analogous to the War of the Roses, or perhaps the earlier Anarchy, but takes place within an Anglo-Norse England that has for many years been the jewel of a North Sea Empire.

There are a few nitpicking things about the maps that I’ll have to focus on next time. But for a first attempt making maps like this I’m very pleased.

The History of the United States was a Complicated one. It seems as if the United States was doomed to fail after their independence, what with all of the different cultures of each of the Colonies. Many consider the downfall of the US to have occurred with the New Constitution meant to replace the Articles of Confederation was blocked by many States and their delegation. This was due to many reasons, mainly because of disagreement on how this new constitution should be. This ultimentully leads to some states not ratified and blocked the New Constitution, leading to the original Articles of Confederation being kept. Tension grew between many states as Political Polarization became worse and worse. The buying of Louisiana was deemed useless and would be blamed for the Panic of 1804. Following many states' succession crises, the final blow that was considered for the young nation was in 1804, when Jefferson won the election. The New England states, claiming it as voter fraud, all declare to succeed from the union, except for Vermont as they never join the Union in the first place. With the aid of both Vermont and the UK, the US would be forced to recognize the new nation of New England. Eventually, the rest of the States would succeed and the US would be dissolved in 1807. Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey would remain with each other as the United Commonwealth of Columbia.
Pretty much all the names are taken from the pre-Norman names for places. By 1066 England already had centuries of Norse cultural influence. For instance Northampton is recorded in Doomsday as ‘Northanton’ so I just kept the name.Interesting Nordic placenames... did you come.up with those?
Brussels was a shoo-in for this, given Belgium has the most concise name among the countries, though no doubt there were second doubts when the name of the person chosen by the Belgians could pass for a comic book villain during WWII. Are Malta and Cyprus colonies or Dominions here or are they part of the United Kingdom on the parliamentary level?Post from an upcoming chapter of my TL, The Pale Horse: The Northwest Montana Insurgency and its Aftermath (1987-2002)

Thanks. As you can guess, english is not my first language, so thanks for spotting my mistakes.Cool scenario! Should be Orthodoxy, not Orthodoxism, if you're using OTL English.
No problem. I had the luck of learning English since I was two years old so it's almost like a first language to me. I actually could not tell it's not your first language, you're definitely fluent in writing.Thanks. As you can guess, english is not my first language, so thanks for spotting my mistakes.
Your description says you're from Canada. Are you Quebecois? Thanks. As you can guess, english is not my first language, so thanks for spotting my mistakes.
This is was too current politics in the set-up.Something ASB.
The Canadian government recently voted by a large majority (not including my local MP or the PM *shakes fist*) to declare that's China's actions in Xinjiang are a genocide. There a a lot of different definitions of genocide, as far as I can tell it meets the description in UN Resolution 260, but doesn't meet the one in my dictionary. Genocide or not, what's going on is definitely terrible.
In an alternate world... Following the declaration of genocide Canada's government severs relations with the PRC, and recognizes Taiwan. Issues an ultimatum concerning the treatment of the Uighurs. And... reveals a futuristic defense system that can block nuclear ICBM's and stuff with a greater than 99.9% effectiveness. Making Canada and her allies immune to the threat of nuclear retaliation and negating MAD.
Events spiral and, without the threat of Nuclear Weapons most of the world (not most at first, but most by the end) ends up intervening in China, militarily. It's war.
The only two countries to support China are Pakistan and North Korea, who (no nukes TTL, it's ASB) get clobbered by South Korea and India, respectively.
The initial combatants are mostly in the west, while there's a tech advantage they just can't match China's numbers. Enter India.
By the time the dust settles after the largest conflict since WW2 things look like this.View attachment 630026
The world in 2025
China's lost weight. The twin cities of Hong Kong and Macau, Tibet, and East Turkestan gave gained independence. Most of Inner Mongolia (the rural, Mongolian parts) have been annexed by Mongolia. And all residual territorial claims and islands have been dropped. China proper has been reorganized into a federal democratic republic. At least it's supposed to be once the occupation ends.
With independence, the ethnic makeup of Tibet, East Turkistan, and Inner Mongolia became a problem. Official deportations were restricted to "recent Han Chinese settlers". Defined by ET and Tibet as those who moved in the last 5 years and had no immediate family in the country, 10 years by Mongolia. Unofficially, Han Chinese were made to feel very unwelcome. Millions more leave.
Taiwan eventually decided the weren't keen on being ruled from Beijing, even under a reformed federal system.
Pakistan was already verging on being the worlds largest failed state, and half collapsed after India Crunched the army. No nukes were used. Independent Baluchistan. Afghan province to Afghanistan. Rump Pakistan is more of a second Bangladesh now.
North Korea is now a dependant territory of the south, full reintegration promised eventually.
And eventually:View attachment 630025
The world in 2040.
Whoops. This is was too current politics in the set-up.
I'd also point out that there is more than a trace of Crimes Against Humanity/War Crimes in the scenario (ethnic cleansing).
Please confine current politics to Chat.
Whoops.
I actually feel kinda bad. I total know better then that. The politics rule completely slipped my mind.
Post gone.
Side note: (question for anyone) Is there any kind of “political” Map Thread in chat? I mostly stay away from that part of the forum.
YesYour description says you're from Canada. Are you Quebecois?
You might be able to get away with it in a way, if in your worlif you say it is an umbrella term for the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches. The names sound similar but there are some differences, with Russia and Georgia having separate Eastern Orthodox Churches, while Armenia has an Oriental Orthodox one. Though of course in the history of this map the Russians may have tried forcing it to be reclassified. The various Orthodox Churches seemed alright with letting everyone keep their own church structures, if only because the Ottomans ruled so many of them so they couldn’t force changes on each other. No problem.
