Gaming in 2000
We enter the new millennium with the end of the Ultra NES. With the arrival of new consoles, Nintendo and Phillips are looking to wrap up their support for their first full console and move on to the Giga NES for the next generation. Meanwhile, the
Mario Party franchise release its second and third entries, adding with them
Mario Tennis to the list of Mario spin-offs. Along with that, the
Pokemon franchise adds
Pokemon Stadium and
Pokemon Crystal to their library, Kirby joins the fun with
Kirby & the Crystal Shards,
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask becomes the last major Zelda release for the UNES, the Mother trilogy is completed with
Mother 3 (named
Earthbound 3 in the US) and Rare releases two more games for the console,
Perfect Dark and
Banjo-Tooie. Other notable games are
Ultra Excitebike and
Ultra Bomberman: The Second Attack.
As for the new consoles, in comes the Sega Neptune. While Sonic doesn't make his debut during launch (During the E3 presentation, this was acknowledged and joked about, with Sega officials claiming that "Sonic was too busy with the third movie to appear in any games,") there was quite a bit for the loyal Sega fan to bite into;
Crazy Taxi,
Dead Or Alive 2,
Rayman 2: The Great Escape,
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six,
Space Channel 5,
Jet Set Radio,
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2,
Spirit of Speed 1937,
Skies of Arcadia,
Quake III Arena,
Capcom Vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000,

Dragon Quest VII.
The PS1 notched out a few more games before closing up shop, mainly
Vagrant Story,
Battlesphere,
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed,
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne and
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. Along with those, they had two major games that shared release with the UNES;
The World Is Not Enough and
Final Fantasy IX.
Meanwhile, the Playstation 2 saw the release of a lot of sequels to take advantage of the new specs:
Wild Arms 2,
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment,
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2,
Parasite Eve II,
Spyro: Year of the Dragon,
Mega Man Legends II,
Ridge Racer V,
Madden NFL 2001 and
Tekken Tag Tournament. New IPs that made their arrivals on the console include
TimeSplitters,
SSX,
Escape From Monkey Island and
No One Lives Forever. Along with that,
Mortal Kombat: Special Forces made its way to the PS2 and Neptune.
