Vetustia: The Place Imperialism Perished

Okay, so, remember how I said the Atlas is my last project, and how I made a huge fuss over leaving the forums and all that? Well... it is my last project, and I'm still don't plan to really be super active here. In December, we finished the first draft of the Atlas, which is what went up online at https://sites.google.com/site/peoplessocialistatlas/. But that won't be the version that goes out for print later this year. There's still so much work left to be done! Most importantly there's the editing. But, since I'm a huge perfectionist, I also want to add a lot more substance to the book. By the time the print version comes out, it might be twice the size of the book you see at the website above. It's going to cover the entire world, every little nook and cranny, and it's going to be fantastic. I'll be dropping previews of some of the awesome maps I've made for the print version over the next few months, until it's ready for ordering. :)

The map above is Washington D.C. under the rule of the United American Socialist Republics. The city was renamed Vetustia, Latin for "antiquated", and is full of propaganda. The American historical revisionists are in full force here in Vetustia, as all elements of American prosperity before the Revolution have been cleared. The UASR as a whole is actually a pretty fine place to live, and quite democratic. However, some vestiges of the old dictatorial communist regime remain, and there is no place it remains as heavily as it does in Vetustia.

Eh it’s more complex than that. China has had extensive ties with the ‘third world.’ Yugoslavia, for example, is a communist state but is considered third world. Meanwhile, China wasn’t particularly friendly towards the USSR, as seen in their Border War and the Nixon visit.
It’s fuzzy.

2nd and a half world?

Maybe it means all countries during the Cold War that had a period in which they were allied with the Soviet Union (e.g. China before the Sino-Soviet split). Notice that I said "during the Cold War," so being allied during WWII doesn't count.

You have a place called "Red Sickle"? Is this a monument composed of or containing a literal "red sickle"?

Second world was always what was behind the iron curtain. It's not a first > second > third gradation. It's a NATO vs comintern vs non aligned thing.

That's why it's so awkward now that the cold war is done with. Second world doesn't mean anything anymore.
Really! I always thought that Second World meant nations that are recovering from the depredations of communism, but that still have a decent standard of living. Poland, Russia, Serbia, maybe Cuba now, and others for example.

Why is one of the places on the map called Drumpf Park?

The more I look at it, the more fun details I find!

Thinkin’ of entering the next MotF contest: what’s a third world country that would be cool to recreate with some material prosperity?

Myanmar. It was prosperous until the Burmese Way to Socialism screwed everything up. It is now poorer due to it.

I know I've stated this to a point of being a broken record on Discord, but this is beast as fuck, especially as a local. I don't see too many alternate depictions of downtown DC, especially ones with the western half of the National Mall not present and the urban geography south of the Mall altered to this degree. The sheer amount of cool details and interesting alternate monuments is stunning. Just like super tenouddaten job.
