There were some colonists leftover from Spain as well as an influx of welsh in the 1810s. I'm bad at writing believable history so independence was eventually peacefully granted (lates 1800s-ish), and the borders changed over time due to a war or two.

Don't think you will have to remove the entire nation just because Jeju has been claimed, though.

Yeah, I knew Jeju had been claimed, just was checking if anybody else had claimed other parts of the peninsula. Either way, I have clarified it in the Location part of the post.
