Is it Third Time Lucky for Rivers or Calley’s time to shine?

The Republican race for the gubernatorial nomination in Virginia will conclude tonight and both potential candidates were sweeping the state in an attempt to lock up a few final votes in the race to replace current Governor Joel McKissock.

Former Lt. Governor Troy Rivers who lost out in 2009 to Rob Buchanan and 2013 to McKissock looks like he is the favourite at this late stage enjoying a small but stable lead over former Walken White House staffer Cliff Calley.

Rivers, who served as Lt. Governor to Casey Mitchell between 2001 and 2005 is very popular with fiscal conservatives and long been seen as a deficit hawk. He worked on President Walken’s deficit reduction task force and was a major critic of the Santos administration during their response to the economic crisis.

It's Fowler v Hoffman in New Jersey

As expected the New Jersey gubernatorial race will between Democratic Newark Mayor Kelly Hoffman and Republican Congressman Jack Fowler, son of former Governor Jonathan Fowler.

Mayor Hoffman was unchallenged for the Democratic nomination, whilst Fowler easily beat out four other Republicans, the closest challenger State Senator Ruth McCabe who could only poll 28% of the vote to Fowler's 59%, with the remaining 13% shared between the three other candidates.

The race between Hoffman and Fowler is expected to be an extremely competitive battle, with the polls pointing to a narrow lead for Mayor Hoffman but within the margin of error.

Still no result in Virginia Republican Gubernatorial Primary as both campaigns ask for County recounts

The race in Virginia to be the Republican gubernatorial candidate is still not decided. Current totals have former Lt Governor Troy Rivers ahead of former White House Staffer Cliff Calley by only around 50 votes state-wide. The Calley campaign have asked for a third recount in Montgomery County which has Rivers leading by just 3 votes, whilst the Rivers campaign has asked for a similar recount in Prince Edward County which Calley leads by just 9 votes.

A staffer for the Calley campaign said "We believed it would be very close, although probably not this close".

Rivers concedes Virginia gubernatorial race as recounts favour Calley

For a third time former Virginia Lt Governor Troy Rivers has lost in his attempt to become the Commonwealth's Governor, after losing out in 2009 & 2013. Although the Republican state party has yet to formally confirm the win Rivers conceded around 7.am this morning.

"A few minutes ago I called Cliff Calley and conceded. I have offered him my total and full support in the general election in November. I ask all my supporters and all those that voted for me to support him. We cannot allow a tax and spend liberal like Mayor Tyler in the Governors mansion".

The votes for Calley seemed to grow after 2 recounts in 2 key counties, including in one Prince Edward County where Rivers was only 9 votes behind but at the end of the recount his lead had grown by 80 votes. The margin yet to be confirmed is set to be around 150 votes.

President Walken & Vice-President Clark endorse Calley's Virginia gubernatorial campaign

Within hours of being confirmed as the Republican gubernatorial nominee in Virginia by the narrowest of margins just 156 votes, former White House deputy of staff and director Leg Affairs Cliff Calley received two of the biggest endorsements he could have hoped for: the President and Vice-President.

The White House released a statement on Thursday evening to say that President Walken had called Calley personally to "congratulate him on his win" and "offer him his support in his bid to become Governor". Vice-President Clark who is known to have a close working relationship with Calley arrived at his Richmond campaign headquarters and pubically endorsed him outside to waiting reporters "Cliff is a good friend of mine, he is a decent man, and shown himself to be one hell of a campaigner, I am pleased to endorse his bid to the Commonwealth's new Governor".

It's understood from sources within the Clark Presidential campaign team, that the Vice-President was going to offer Calley a senior place in her campaign team if he had lost on Tuesday, now it seems she will have to do with out him.

Ben Stanley resigns as Socialist Alliance Leader

Ben Stanley has resigned as Leader of the Socialist Alliance. It comes after Stanley himself lost the Mereyside Gubernatorial election six weeks ago, and the party as a whole suffered big loses in the local elections.

Deputy-leader Hamish Galloway has been confirmed as "acting leader", with a timetable for a leadership election due to be drawn up by the party executive in the coming days. Galloway who is the parties only MP is expected to run as is former London Mayoral candidate Jackie Morgan, and the highly controversial Mayor of Leicester Dawud Salma. Many predict that the party could fall apart if Mr Salma who has a large following in the party membership is elected leader.

Gault: “Continuity not enough for our nominee”

Kansas Governor Peter Gault hit out at his primary rivals yesterday saying that there was no way his party could go into 2018 Presidential Election offering only a continuation of President Walken’s administration.

Gault, who appeared on a number of Sunday morning talk shows, continued to push his message that the party needed “genuine conservative ideas” and insisted that “offering continuity is not enough to be our nominee.”

The Governor, who gave his most composed and considered performances of the cycle appeared to be revelling in a new found confidence brought on by improving poll numbers. He targeted his attacks on the races two presumptive front runners, Vice-President Liz Clark and former White House Chief of Staff Henry Shallick. His attacks on Clark were particularly withering; “other than making public appearances and holding press conferences I really have no idea what role the Vice-President has had in the past few years. I struggle to know where she stands on the major challenges the country faces.”

On Governor Shallick he was more complimentary, calling him “a good man” but saying that he, along with President Walken, had not done enough to protect what he described as “everyday American values” adding that “as far as I can see so far there is only one conservative in this race.”

Gault’s messaging has improved significantly since the addition of Campaign Manager Mike Rathbone, a veteran of the Don Butler campaign and it’s clear from recent developments that the Gault campaign intends to run a similar, rally based campaign. Asked about the similarities Governor Gault said “I have huge respect for Reverend Butler, he ran a great campaign in 2006 and as I said at the time it was a great shame that our party decided to back a candidate who wasn’t prepared to support a number of the key tenants of our movement.”

President of the European Council Pierre Simon "A United States of Europe is coming"

The President of the European Council Pierre Simon used his annual address to the European Parliament in Strasburg to claim "a United States of Europe is coming".

Simon who is regarded as an arch federalist said that "we have to understand a single united European nation is coming, we have already started on that track" adding he that was supporting a proposed law that would allow the European National Anthem "Ode to Joy" to replace all member states National anthems.

Foreign Secretary Fiona Wallace is said to be "seething" over Simon's speech amid fears that it would reignite calls for a second UK referendum over membership of the European Union, after the country voted to remain within the European Union in May 2013 by just 0.35%. The speech is likely to inflame Conservative back benchers as well.

President Romanova enraged by President Simon's statement

President Natalya Romanova blasted President Pierre Simon of the European Council on his statement about the United States of Europe. The press conference was held before 8 PM Moscow Time but President Romanova did not hide her anger over the statement.

"I know President Simon is not a fan of Moscow and Russia as a whole. He has advocated Kalingrad's return to Poland, or been a very vocal critic of our policies, and not has stated his concern about a threat to the east. He does not mean China he means Russia. A United States of Europe would begin a slew of policies that are comparable to Operation Barbarossa. He would oppose Russia being a member of the EU and I am confident his successors would do harm to Russia."

Romanova did not hide her vocal opposition towards a move of European Federalizations. Romanova has been on edge since the failed coup last month.

Super PAC hits Clark on pro-choice positions

Vice-President Liz Clark has come under fire from socially conservative Super PAC, American Values, who made a significant add buy in a number of key early states to hit the VP over her support for Pro-Choice positions.

Sarah McGill, a spokeswoman, for AV PAC, told NBS news that the ad was a “necessary move to draw attention to the Vice-President’s long history of betraying the conservative movement over the rights of the unborn. She is hoping this won’t be an issue - we want to make sure the Republican Party knows exactly where she stands.”

American Values is not associated with any particular candidate but was initially established to support Virginia preacher Don Butler in 2006. McGill has previously issued statements praising former White House Chief of Staff Henry Shallick’s support for pro-life candidates during the 2016 mid-terms.

Asked about the ads Governor Shallick said he “couldn’t support attacks on fellow Republicans. I don’t agree with the Vice-President on this, but I don’t think our primaries should be about tearing each other down.”

Kansas Governor Peter Gault, was less unequivocal, defending the ad and saying “the Vice-President says she can continue the legacy of President Walken but she is diametrically opposed on life - it’s right that people know that.”

Webster calls for a second EU referendum

National Peoples Party Leader Robert Webster has called for a second referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union after the speech of President of the European Council Pierre Simon said that a "United States of Europe was coming".

Webster told in a speech to his supporters in Great Grimsby, the only seat the party holds outside of London"I am calling for a second referendum on membership of the EU, it is clear now by the comments of Pierre Simon that the British people where sold a fiction in 2013, that there would be no more moves towards Federalist and a United European super state, well Simon made it clear on Wednesday that it is simply not the case, actually I thank him for his speech, because he made it clear what the European Union intends and I intend to put my party at the centre of the battle against this plan, because the government and the Labour party is incapable of doing so".

Adding "I am going to be telling the British working people the truth about the plans of the European Union, and how it has destroyed our fishing industry, like you here in Grimsby have seen and how thousands of immigrants from Eastern Europe have destroyed the British way of life, especially in many seaside towns, when the Meyer Government signed us up for this back in 2003, we where told, there would be hardly any change, and any one that opposed it was a racist, the British political elite have sold the working peoples a lie for far two long, they are now on notice, we are coming after you"

Carter: “No Doubt There is Need for another Referendum”

Former Prime Minister Andrew Carter made a rare public appearance this morning and piled pressure on his successor Richard Samuels by throwing his support behind calls for a 2nd EU referendum in light of moves by European Federalists to create a “United States of Europe.”

Appearing on the Andrew Marr show, Carter, who has made only sparing appearances in public since the stroke that led to his resignation in 2016 said that “there is now little doubt that the Federalists are in the ascendancy in the European Union, in 2013 the country voted to stay in by the narrowest of margins. We were given repeated assurances during that campaign that the EU was no longer about integration for the sake of integration and that there would never be a European Superstate, it’s clear that’s no longer true and if we are going head long into this then the people should have there say.”

Carter’s comments look a lot like a co-ordinated strategy by Conservative Eurosceptics to pressure their more europhile leader into action. Former Work and Pensions Secretary, and Carter ally Tom Hartley told Sophy Ridge on SKY News that “only the Conservative Party will act on this, ever other party will happily sell us down the river to Brussels. I’m not the Prime Minister’s closest confidant on this, or many other issues, but he needs to act and act now.”

Gault: “Completely proper to question Vice-President on her values”

Kansas Governor Peter Gault continued to ramp up the pressure on his Republican Primary rival, Vice-President Liz Clark over questions that she was out of step with her party on a host of social issues including same-sex marriage and abortion.

Gault appeared via satellite on Fox News Sunday and pushed back on suggestions by Clark spokesman Daniel Kline that the “VP’s views are well known and clear”.

“I think the idea that the Vice-President can play down her views on key issues for so many people and say ‘she will respect the views of the party’ and that everyone else should move on is ridiculous. It’s clear that the Vice-President doesn’t not believe in the rights of the unborn, she should be clear with the electorate about that. I believe marriage is between one man and one woman, the Vice-President, it appears, does not. It’s her view and I respect that we have different views but she can’t pretend the don’t exist.”

Governor Gault is continuing to barnstorm across two key early states; Iowa and South Carolina. He continues to trail both the Vice-President and former White House Chief of Staff Henry Shallick in both national and state polls.

BREAKING NEWS!

Tech billionaire Martin Walcott arrested in Russia

Tech Billionaire Martin Walcott of PP Enterprises was arrested in Russia today by federal authorities the charges are related to the coup attempt in May 2017. The Coup mostly failed but the FSB and prosecutors believe that Walcott was a major foreign backer of the coup. Russian Authorities have indicated that they will charge another person that they claim is a high level official in the US in abstentia.

The rumor is Walcott supported oligarch Yuri Pervak whom Moscow is claiming orchestrated the coup. The coup was failed due to officers that Pervak talked to in the army did not back the coup. The US Embassy is protesting the arrest of the billionaire but the Russians are refusing to send him back to the US. The statement local prosecutors made indicated that Walcott was cooperating with prosecutors.

Shallick Refuses to Answer Clark Abortion Question

In a notably awkward interview this morning former White House Chief of Staff Henry Shallick refused to say whether or not Vice-President Liz Clark had ever discussed her views on abortion with the President or whether she had lobbied him to maintain funding for Planned Parenthood.

Appearing on Taylor Reid in the Morning, Shallick was pushed by the eponymous host to respond to continued discussions over whether the Vice-President’s pro-choice position meant she was unsuitable to be the GOP Presidential nominee.

Governor Shallick tried to parry the question saying “I’m not going to discuss what went on between the President and the Vice-President in private, it’s not appropriate” however Reid would not let the line of questioning go saying “so you won’t deny that any such lobbying ever took place?” but again the Governor demurred and said only that “it was inappropriate to discuss those conversations.”

Not surprisingly conservatives on Twitter went into overdrive with talk show host Nash Rockford saying the exchange made it “very clear that the Vice-President lobbied the President on these issues” and that she should “be transparent with GOP primary voters on what she was pushing for.”

A Shallick campaign spokesman said that nothing should be read into the exchange. “The Governor was not confirming or denying anything – he simply believes that privileged discussions between the President and the Vice-President are not for him to share."

There seems little doubt that Vice-President Clark’s response to this emerging issue has been lacklustre – her team’s attempt to suggest it was a none issues and that she would support the party platform have fallen flat. GOP strategist and talk show host James Eaton said he thought this had the potential to detail Clark’s entire campaign. “I can’t believe they haven’t prepared for this – I can only assume that they thought because Shallick is so close to the administration who chose her for VP that he wouldn’t go there. She seems to have been caught entirely flat footed by this Super PAC and by Governor Gault jumping enthusiastically on the bandwagon.”

Dutch PM "furious" over Simon's "United States of Europe" speech

The Dutch Prime-Minister Jan Snedling today directly attacked Pierre Simon's "United States of Europe" speech.

Snedling's coalition government is broadly pro-European but the Netherlands as a whole is along with Poland the most Eurosceptic on mainland Europe. "I have spoken to the President personally since his speech, and made it very clear, that I was furious on his remarks. I and my government support the European Union as it is, there can be no more integration, no common army, police or anthem. I and the vast majority of the Dutch police will not stand for it".

Samuels under fire from all sides during a stormy PMQ's

Prime-Minister Richard Samuels came under attack from his own back benchers as well as the opposition during a stormy PMQ,s as the fall out to Pierre Simon's "United States of Europe" speech continues.

Conservative MP for Hove, Marshall Weatherley the arch eurosceptic asked the Prime-Minister "when he intended to bring before his House, the necessary legalisation for a second referendum", whilst Bob Eastwick (Buckingham) another MP of the back bench "awkward squad" said that "unless the Prime-Minister declared a second referendum, he should start thinking about resigning". Many on the Labour benches who are pro staying in the Union but few now are federalists, the era of PM Meyer & Foreign Secretary Styles is long gone, it still rankles with Labour MP's to be reminded of Meyer's in-famous 1998 party conference speech "we are all Federalist's now". David Swales (Labour Plymouth Devonport) called the speech by Simon "an un-front to our democray" ending basically with the same question as many what was the Prime-Minister going to do about it.

The answer from Samuels today was to waffle "the Foreign Secretary has lodged an official protest" was a line he used twice, but it didn't go down well. Andrea Benn who was Shadow Foreign Secretary during the 2013 referendum campaign was on shifting ground today and knew it, she had supported the remain campaign and had shared a platform with Samuels who was Deputy Prime-Minister at the time. She went safe asked if the Government had any prior warning of Simon's speech (he didn't according to the Prime-Minister), and then on the talks with other European leaders and Russia (The Dutch are furious, the Dutch Prime-Minister Jan Shedling making his thoughts public this morning).

Speaker Anthony Walker unsually allowed a question for both the leaders of the Liberal Democrats and the National Peoples party (they normally get turns week by week), Robert Richardson (North Southwark & Bermondsey) for the Liberal Democrats again like Benn supported a remain vote, is a pro-European (his wife is from Switzerland) he used his one question again on the diplomatic messures being used by the Government, whilst his Parliamnetary neighbour, Robert Webster (Lewisham Deptford) made it clear he demanded a second referendum "without delay".
