I'm about to head to sleep so will just give a question and a comment. For the 1 is the question of why the CSA would ever have good relations with a major African State to begin with , unless they were providing slaves which would cut into the profits of many slave-owning elites in the CSA. I know you are not saying they have good relations, but I don't see them supporting the U.S. as having any real effect on how they would view each other, outside of the greater chance of drawing blood.

For 2.... Well, that is not South America.

Sorry for the late reply!

1. You're right, the CSA, logically, would never have good relations with an African state. The reason they get involved on the North's side is based off an event that happens in the book series

After destroying all the European colonies in Southern Africa, the Tswana "invade" Brazil to recapture stolen people and to return them to Africa. This lines up perfectly with Napoleon's War in Iberia, so they largely succeed thanks to his help. The Tswana wouldn't want to attempt this on a unified, strong, and distant America. However, the disunion provided ample opportunity for them to assist the North in exchange for the return of slaves to Africa.

2. Central America. Whoops. Amended :p

Oh what the heck, since I've spent almost a week on this. Here's my latest map from my TL: Of Rajahs and Hornbills.

Though the main story focuses on Brooke Sarawak, it also branches out to other places that were hard-hit by colonialism, like Africa. The main POD here is the ill-heath of king Leopold II before the Conference of Brussels, forcing the delegates to redraw the continent and give the whole basin to Spain.

It's beautifully complex

There's an interesting story waiting to be written there about the alt-Spanish Civil War and the Republic in exile... :)

Very nice map, Sketchdoodle. It strikes me that the German-British switcheroo makes more sense than OTL: after all, the British dominated Zanzibar, it would make more sense for them to take over the parts of the Zanzibari empire that were just across the water from it.

I really need to re-read "Rajas" from the beginning.

By the time the British were dominant in Zanzibar the German East Africa Company had already plonked themselves into Tanganyika.

I won't speak for the scenario, but use this 1914 basemap:
Copy it and paste it into Microsoft Paint or an equivalent programme and use the paint-dropper tool for your colours to avoid inconsistencies. :)

Thank you! I did use the dropper, so I would presume that the inconsistencies were due to the basemap itself. I'll work with this basemap in the future.

One of the 1910-era basemaps does have inconsistent colouring just on the basemap alone--I know this because I ran into a bunch of discoloured spots on my Hakkou Ichiu map in areas I'd never even touched.

Boy, will that be a sight to see? The Belgians did hold on to the Congo during both world wars, so it's not too far to imagine a republican base in Africa (although facing Congolese demands up-close would then be unavoidable. Oh well.)

Actually, the German East Africa Company got their foothold in Tanganyika during the early 1880's. With my TL starting in the 1840's there was enough butterflies to prevent that from happening.

Originally the Germans intended on their sphere reaching as far north as Witu, farther north than Mombasa in Kenya. I don't think it's a massive stretch to see a Germany Kenya, especially if the British aren't yet overtly involved in Egypt or the Nile (control over which was a large part of the motivation in seizing Uganda/Kenya).

I love how you handle showing spheres of influence and native states and the extent of real colonial power

Vietnam was quite surprised to find itself on this brave new empty world. While at first there was panic, it lessened as the weeks went on and the people soon expanded out and building a bigger Vietnam. Now while the citizens of Vietnam were very surprised, they were not nearly as surprised as the men and women from the Vietnam War who died, but found themselves alive again. People on both sides of the war found themselves breathing again. South Vietnamese and allies found themselves on the island of Taiwan. Most North Vietnamese Citizens found themselves among their former enemies, however, the North Vietnamese Military found themselves alone on a land mass. While there was contact between the Vietnam Government, the South Vietnamese and allies, and the North Vietnam and Allies, there wasn't any unification progress made. The North Vietnamese claimed that the Vietnam Government weren't true communists and left to form their own state that they dubbed the Democratic Socialist Republic of True Vietnam. And the South Vietnamese, with support from their allies, declared that Vietnam wasn't democratic enough and formed their own state as well which they called the Free Democratic State of Exiles, but is commonly called Freedonia. While there were some in the Vietnam Government wanted to demolished the recently revived, most just said that they were better off ignoring them and expanding their nation to make it the more appealing place to live. Freedonians, while not perfectly democratic, following the American System of the Electoral College, is the freest nation on Earth. A very multicultural state of Vietnamese, Americans, Koreans, Australians, Thai, New Zealanders, and Filipinos. Most of the culture follows a mix of Vietnamese and American cultures. On the other side of that coin, the Viet-Cong (as the DSRTV tends to be called) is an authoritarian hellhole. North Korea on steroids, where the people are constantly monitored, they don't have any freedoms, are are trapped by their government. The Vietnamese Republic (the ISOTed nation) is doing well for itself. The largest nation on the earth, with the highest population, the highest technologically. The sole world power, currently eyeing the DSRTV debating on whether or not they should annex it.

((Maybe I'll start turning this into a series. Getting away from American Wars and some more from around the world. If anything needs to be corrected, let me know.))

Nation+those who died in a war against them
North Korea and those dead in the Korean War

An update to the Darker World map I posted on Page 44.

Hi Everybody!
This is actually my first post on this site. I've been really interested in althistory maps and decided to take a crack at a possibly overused, but still fun trope:

The United Provinces of North America (Blue, territories in lighter blue) were formed from the American Revolution of 1776. The old Dominion of New England broke away and, inciting revolution in the Two Canadas, decided to confederate and join together in a radical new experiment in federalism and republicanism. The newly named United Provinces of North America (UPNA) took its name from a letter from Revolutionary War hero (and later First President-General of the Federal Council) George Washington. It's capital is Washington, Upper Canada (OTL Ottawa)

Upon major victories in Virginia, Charleston, and Savannah, the British solidified their hold on the Southern and Mid-Atlantic colonies. Pennsylvania and later, Erie, joined the stable union of British colonies. Upon the addition of the Floridas, Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Saint Domingue, the colonies would later unite as the Union of Columbia (Dark red, Amerindian territories in lighter red). It's capital is Charleston, on the coast of the Royal Province of South Carolina.

The Spanish, then French Louisiana territory would never join what would become known as the Mexican Confederation, instead opting to be it's own Kingdom, under the rule of the house of Bourbon. To this day, the Kingdom of Louisiana (Gold-ish) is a modern, cultured, albeit devoutly Royalist nation in the Francophone community. The Royal capital is located in St. Louis, though New Orleans is by far the largest city in the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, though the proclamation line was still technically honored by the British (as part of the 1785 Treaty of Savannah with the Cherokee, Choctaw and Muskogee Tribes), many settlers inhabited the area within and around the Appalachian mountains. These areas continually resisted closer integration within the British North American Empire, though they did manage to settle with, trade with, and even adopt the culture of the Amerindians. With loosely based family, or clan societies holding supreme, in the coming Plantation Wars through the Southern areas of Columbia, these clans, under pressure from the Mittleamerikabund to their North, as well as Louisiana to their west, decided to join forces as a neutral union, known as the Free States of Appalachia (Yellow). Though fairly agricultural and low on economic development, Appalachia can arguably pointed to as the most democratic country in the hemisphere, other than possibly the Nordamerikabund. It's capital is Boone (OTL Boone, NC)

The Mittleamerikabund (Purple) is a union of the Germanic, Scandinavian, and Slavic settlements surrounding the Great Lakes in North America. It is a very loose Federation, governed as a parliamentary republic with a collective head of state, similar to the UPNA to their North. Their capital is New Hanover, Huronia (OTL Detroit, Michigan).

**Other countries of note include the Federal Republic of New York (Orange), and the Confederation of Central America (which lives up to Bolivar's vision of a great nation with a thriving economy and city in the vein of Constantinople lying in Nicaragua, where a Pan-American Canal is built (with the help of the British, Mexicans, and North Americans).**

If I can suggest one, you could try France ISOT'd with the dead of either WW1 or WW2. I could see that being fairly interesting!
