Great thread, I always wondered what would have happened if New Zealand took up its option to join the Australian Federation.

Have to agree with this man; in all the time I lived in Australia (in the USA at the moment), I never once died. All kidding aside, despite going out into the bush frequently with the army, I saw all of maybe half a dozen snakes, all of which gave me a wide berth.
